Are the stamps you use home made affairs or propriety? I was looking for some stamps but have ended up casting cobles with a silicon mould.

I haven't got a picture of the stamps used but from what I remember they were short lengths of plastic rectangular tube with the ends reshaped. Each was a stamp for an individual scale size set.

The first of the as yet to be completed minerals seen inn more familaier surroundings (though each still needs underframe repairs/upgrading and of course numbering).

Progress on the layout itself it in effect frozen at present due to current concerns. However that doesn't mean that the empty workshop isn't seeing (slow and solo), progress with any of the other projects...…..:)

Mally, how many times do I have to tell you, the carburetor does not go there!

Should that photo be on the Hairy Bikers thread?
Regards
Allen

I did post a picture of it in there a few weeks back when it was looking a bit less skeletal!.

However, it hadn't been used for 4 years. Produced more smoke than a WW2 destroyer when started and has a gearbox that is less effective at retaining oil than a sieve. Hence the sleight tinkering.:D

This is a great thread, great modeling. Is the AJS a 350cc ?

Cheers, we are doing our best not to show that we haven't a clue what we are doing!:D

The AJS is a 500 single. It seems to be pretty much original too apart from the registration (which the paperwork shows to have been changes twice). As you can see it does need some mechanical work if it is to hold oil again plus there is a small amount of damage indicating it has been dropped at least once that will also need attention.

The intention is to give it the attention it needs hopefully without loosing a lot of the patina of age.

Though the current situation we find ourselves in has curtailed progress on the layout somewhat and it looks to be some time before we can get together as a group it hasn't stopped progress all together.

Despite working in a key industry throughout the last few month, Alan has also found the time to progress the first of the buildings that make up the factory complex that will form the backdrop to the scene modelled.
pf2.jpg

This is the sort of scene we wanted to depict all along.
pf3.jpg
Incomplete but now in its final colouring the building blends with the surrounding structures whilst forming the ideal visual depth to them.

The next stage for the building will be fitting the all important door, windows etc... plus giving it the first of the indications of its identity.

Away from the layout the cardboard boxes that make for a temporary painting bench for me at present see the initial brickwork colouring for the corner shops is being applied...…...

Plus a degree 0f experimentation with a mixture of mediums and techniques for the signage...………. fortunately this is the non public viewing side!;)

Believe it or not, it has gone from raw orange Slaters brick plastic to this stage in just one day...…..

Ripps, I may upset all the other great modellers who post here, but I always go through all the new posts when I log on first to see if there is anything new from Millicent St. Every update makes my day. Great vision, magic modelling. Thanks

Rog - there has only been sparodic progress on the layout due to covid. The layout is housed at one of the groups home and so we can’t access it at the moment. The paint factory at the back of the layout has just about been completed but yet to be installed. I also have it on good authority that the shops at the left hand end of the layout have been built and just need painting & weathering. I’m sure Rippers will be along with some pictures as he is in charge of the painting & weathering, but just to keep you entertained, here is one of the notice boards that I’ve just made. It is due to go on the fence in front of the builders yard. The two posters advertise local events - wrestling at a local baths and a local rugby derby between Hull & Rovers in the cup. 1FA86669-9A2E-4104-B890-3B59D9A08039.jpeg

The current situation means the group is currently scattered and unable to meet up in any way. However the fist of the factory buildings that will make up the paintworks along the back of the modelled scene did return to the layout a few days before lockdown. Now replendant with windows and a full interior and lighting (including a full staircase with handrails inside the left hand end.
