A true S7 type would do that in stages over the next couple of decades perhaps?
if ever in my case - for me it's the journey rather than the destination, although my longest project is fine scale so it's not exclusively S7.

Finishing an item of stock is not the destination, but part of the journey towards a model railway, finishing a model railway is not a destination either, but also part of the journey.

Agreed if that is your destination, but if we all aimed for the same destination and made the same journey it'll get a trifle crowded at the end. I appreciate that it's all part of the rich tapestry of our hobby that different people have different destinations and I'll enjoy the postings wherever people are going.

Anyway back to 08's - my order has been submitted - actually with the 2mmFS Association. Hopefully there is enough interest for them to re-release their 08 kit.

In all fairness, the taper is greater than you might image. I can measure it exactly tomorrow if any one really gives a ....., imperial or metric....your choice of unit.
As a kettle builder rather a biscuit tin builder I'm still slightly ignorant of which bit is supposed to taper, hopefully someone could educate me. Everyone says the bonnet tapers but fails to stipulate in which view? Front to back, side to side or top to bottom? Judging from the photo is it in the front view tapering from the bottom of the radiator to the top? I wasn't sure if it was down to the photo slightly distorting the view

The taper is best viewed from the front and the bonnet top is narrower than the base, so the sides slope inward toward the top, I dimly recall it's about 4" or so (2" each side), about the same difference as the tumblehome on a Mk1 and we wouldn't accept flat sided Mk1's now would we ;)

Best shot I can find and agree the angle distorts things a little,

The red lines are image verticals, the blue lines follow the line of the battery box which is physically vertical, so transpose that to the bonnet and there is still a taper, at foot plate level I know it's 4" wide between yellow line and bonnet base.

So as a very rough guess it's a 2" taper each side.

A Mk1 from centre line.

Solebar is 4' - 4¼"
Max waist line is 4' - 6"
Gutter level is 4' - 3½"

Max side deviation is 2½"

It's probably easier to see on the fuel tank front where you have a known vertical line.

And from the cab

For what it's worth, the cab windscreen is also tapered and wider at the top, but that really isn't worth bothering about ;)

Thanks - at least I now know what everyone is on about. People were talking about tapers and I couldn't see where it should be, I thought it was one of those stereogram images where you stare at them and a hidden image pops out - I could never see the hidden image in them either!

The taper in the bonnet side is just a really simple solution to the problem of holding the doors back if they're open...
