I built the baseboards so that when I sit in my favourite chair, the track is at eye level. So It was fairly easy to see into the empty cavern of the goods shed, so I added a crane.
I need to stop adding all the bits and bobs and concentrate on wiring the control panel. It won’t take long as 90% has been salvaged from the previous layout.
The water crane kit, fencing and still to be installed signals were kindly donated by a generous friend. Still lots to do and it makes an enjoyable break from rolling stock kit building.

The layout is wired up and fully functional. I knocked up a control panel for the points from some scrap ply and some DPDT switches I have had for some time.
I gave the Lionheart B set an outing to celebrate, and decided I really don’t like the lighting, also I must invest in some magnetic couplings.

I had a play around with some buddliea shrubs, litchen and some ‘vines’. I haven’t any real experience with this type of scenic work, so it’s all new and trial and error. Again, not much is stuck down, I’m trying to feel my way before committing to anything permanent.
At the moment the derelict track runs in to the back scene. I’m hoping to disguise this with the addition of my PW train

If the track is derelict then I'd expect the signal arm and gubbins to be removed leaving just the post, shame to spoil a perfectly good signal mind.

Those items usually went long before the track was lifted though no doubt dozens of pictures will now pour forth disputing that :D

The shrubbery looks nice either way

I did wonder about the signal arm.....it was a bit of a mission to paint though :)
It’s not too late to remove it, perhaps I’ll revisit once the PW gang turn up :)

Rather than remove it, you could put a big X on the arm. That was usually done when installing signals to show it was not in use, which is kind of the reverse of what you’re modelling. It would give you the excuse to leave the arm in place, though.

Depending on how long the track has been derelict you could always plant a few large shrubs between the rails and sleepers instead of using a wagon.

As far as the signal arm is concerned it could be 'the one that got away'.

I do have an etched X from the kit.....however after a little frantic searching I found this...

Coming together nicely chap.

I can't be 100% sure from the photos of the length of track with the rails removed but (depending on how bothered you are) I think there's one more thing to do... All the chairs appear to still have the wooden keys fixed to the outer jaw. I'd get a sharp knife and slice them all off. In reality the PWay gang would have knocked them all out to enable the rail to be lifted. You can then leave the keys littered around the track.

I had had a go with a couple and should have persevered....but when Im playing with the trains without my glasses on I can’t tell they are there :D
However, on reflection it’s another job for my PW guys when they eventually turn up:rolleyes:

How did you screw the two frame spreaders to the outside of the frames?
It looks like I will have to start mine (Br1C tender).

Hi Len,
They are joined by first bending 4 horizontal small tabs on the outer chassis. You then solder small packing pieces on top, then tap eight 14 BA holes for the screws. The screws pass through the spreaders and into the tapped tabs. Everything fits perfectly
