Please please, if anyone bumps in to my modelling mojo, would they send it back to E11.

Think it flew out the window somewhere between the NEC and Love Lane HQ.

......Also need to concentrate on passing out as a driver this year. If it doesn't happen in 2019 I don't think it'll ever happen.

JB.

JB,
Don't worry me old China, I followed you out of the NEC onto the motorway and your driving was fine......as for your mojo I swerved round it and didn't run it over :D

Okay, so I rolled the tumblehome's on the two coach kits that I have at Love Lane HQ yesterday an now I have something to be getting on with.

Come across a possible snag on what looks to be otherwise a fantastic kit.

On the Sidelines corridor compartment coach there are three tabs on the body end that fit into three notches on the sides. Great idea, however when the ends have the sides bent in to create the bow end, due to the curve for the tumblehome the bottom tab no longer meets the corresponding notch on the side.

I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar problem and how they got round it. Should I leave as is and fill with solder (bit of a bodge) or make the top two notches in the side about 1mm deeper so that the bottom tab meets the side correctly? The pics should describe the situation a little better..

From experience with the MMP Mk.1 body shell the problem looks like the side etch is too short at the lower edge and hence my preference is to add a strip to the side and file/sand to shape.

BTW - turnunder please, tumblehome is above the waist.

Turns out it was at Chez @Oz7mm

I have so many things on the go and I couldn't move any of them forward for one reason or another, but after being able to roll the turnunder on the two coach kits I can crack on now..

JB,

Glad you sorted the coach and found your mojo. Tricky things, mojos...

If the coach edge is truly at a right angle to the top/bottom edge then the answer to your question is to deform the coach end to meet it. Next time you have a chance to look at any bow-ended stock closely you can check, but those angled panels either side of the gangway are unlikely to be flat in the engineering sense.

Wow JB, that coach didn't touch the ground! We were only looking at it in the flat (out of the box that is) just before I headed home!

I really don't want to chase your mojo away again, but when looking at your pic of the end and side joint tabs I've spotted something a bit odd with the lav window ventilator etch. I know it is only a small error, probably why it was not noticed at Love Lane, but it could do with rectifying.

You need not worry too much about making the carriage corner joints and tabs particularly tidy though. This image from the LNER Coach Assn. flickr site (usual disclaimers hopefully apply) shows a fairly beefy vertical moulding that will cover it all up anyway?

The pic also shows the window vent geometry quite nicely as well!

Thanks Pete,

It's moved on a bit now, may have it runnable by end of the weekend.

Not too sure I'll do anything with the lav ventilators as that will require chopping them out and that ain't gonna happen, however the corner angle is very enlightening. I wondered if it was a preservation thing on that particular carriage but it appears not to be. I may try and get some 1mm angle on the corner and see how it looks. I can't see it on any models that I have found pictures of, seems to be a bit of an omission of something quite prominent.

JB,
You might find 1 mm angle a bit on the heavy side mate, what about plastic micro strip, super glued onto the corner once any soldering is finished with.

Might be right there Col, unless I pop the brass angle on and file it back, I don't need to worry about the corner remaining sharp as it has a radius on it anyway. Still not a great fan of mixing media really..

Thompson D338. Brilliant as per the other kit even with missing instructions. It's foolproof as all the interior partitions have corresponding slots in the floor, and each piece can only go in one place.
Very nice - I'm seriously tempted to get a couple although as truth be told I haven't built any coaches for myself (I built a few for my Dad when he was in business but nothing for myself) I'd like to get a few for the V2 (which I haven't built yet!!). Is it a complete kit for the price? or do you have to get the bogies as extras?

My only query with this is that the half etched rivets on the sole bar look to be on the outside giving the impression of dimples on the sole bars - is this deliberate or ore they on the wrong side?

Hi Adrian, not sure what you mean, however the rivets are pushed through with a rivet punch, and once again can only go in a certain place due to the design of the kit.
