Layouts destroyed at Market Deeping

Vandals broke into the school which is the venue for Market Deeping Exhibition in Stamford overnight last night.
Layouts which had been set up have been trashed as have Trade stands.
The biggest layout there was our layout O finescale layout Helmthwaite and Chapel Lane and it was one of the layouts trashed along with all of our stock.
We are told that two persons were apprehended.
I am personally devastated.
Among the things in that wrecked hall is 20 years worth of kit building.

The show is clearly not going ahead.

Very sorry to hear your sad news John, as you say 20 years of painstaking modelling gone in a moment. I hope that the perpetrators are punished as severely as the damage that they have caused.

Kind regards

Mike

I am so sorry to hear that John. It is a situation that we all dread, and is very dispiriting. No amount of monetary compensation can compensate you for the time, effort and craft that has gone into the models you have made.

I have just been allowed into the hall.
The police have asked us not to post photos yet
The layout is smashed beyond salvation.
The Black 5 has been wilfully utterly destroyed along with my beautiful coaches and around 45 wagons
Nine other locos of mine trashed.
Twenty years of modelling gone in a couple of hours.

Totally sickening! Ago devistating for the traders who have had their sales stock destroyed or damaged. It is their livelyhood that is effected. I doubt that any insurance will cover a fraction of what has been lost! BUT I hope that it can! When I ran exhibitions at Hinckly, Leics and Atherstone, Warwicks in the past, we always had someone sleeping on the premices although I don't believe that a lot of premices allow that nowdays. My thoughts and those of my club are with all the layout owners, operators and traders. God bless, Earl King of All Rounders MRC

John - I am so saddened to hear this news. As has been said already, it's a societal problem and the authorities appear to have no wish to do anything about it. My thoughts are with you and the other contributors to your exhibition.

John, I am beyond shocked, pure disbelief.

I'm not going to post the 'why' question as no one can get into the head of people that have issues.

I just know it couldn't have happened to a nicer person, and hope that any insurance payouts will allow the grieving process to be as short as possible.

Desperately sorry to hear.

JB.

John, this has to be the most horrible experience for anybody in our hobby. I fear this type of incidence more than anything else, I would rather the models were stolen than destroyed. The people who do this sort of thing find it easier to destroy things than make things. So sad.

Why, why, why? This is what I drafted when I first read your post just after it had been posted. But I couldn't think what to say next. I still don't except to add to others' comments that it is such an evil criminal act.

The problem at smaller shows is the security aspect that cannot be easily addressed while insurance can do nothing to replace one's creativity.

As to punishment, a slap on the wrist is probably all they'll get by using all the usual excuses.

Please accept my sincere commiseration to all concerned.

My sympathies.

I fear many people will not understand how much these things mean to us, especially when they represent work carried out over so many years.

Such models are genuinely irreplaceable.

You deserve better from your fellow man.

John

I don't know what words there are to describe how I feel at your loss and also for the criminals who did this. Just that they are words of a very different kind.

My commiserations to you and to all who have lost models , to the traders and to the organisers of the show, who must be feeling absolutely gutted right now.

John,
I can only reiterate the feelings expressed by those before me, and can only offer my own commiserations to yourself and everyone affected by such mindless acts of violence.

John, I can add nothing to what has been already said but my own commiserations and sympathy to you and all those who have suffered as a result of this stupid, illogical and unnecessary happening. A complete and utter tragedy.

This is terrible. SCUMBAGS
Richard is right, how can any amount of monetary compensation compensate all those years of work and the pride when showing said work at exhibitions.
These scumbags need to be named and shamed.
They will probably only end up with a couple of hours community service for their wilful act of vandalism.
My thoughts and my commiserations to all the modelers and the traders.

A very sad Pete
