Vandals broke into the school which is the venue for Market Deeping Exhibition in Stamford overnight last night.
Layouts which had been set up have been trashed as have Trade stands.
The biggest layout there was our layout O finescale layout Helmthwaite and Chapel Lane and it was one of the layouts trashed along with all of our stock.
We are told that two persons were apprehended.
I am personally devastated.
Among the things in that wrecked hall is 20 years worth of kit building.

The show is clearly not going ahead.

John - I'm absolutely sickened to hear of this mindless vandalism to your models and the models of the other affected parties.

I would be incandescent with rage if stuff I'd spent months or years working on was trashed in seconds, by some brain-dead waste of oxygen. I'm glad to hear that two scumbags were apprehended though - I just hope they get sent down for a very long time (about 20 years seems fair, given the time you've spent on your models). They'll soon come to realise that "playing trains" would have been more fun than playing "Mummies and Daddies" with a 6' 4" "lifer"....

It’s sickening we need security because of mindless idiots. They had some fun no doubt and the consequences will not compensate the real pain that’s caused to the John and all.

That's devastating news, I'm so terribly sorry to hear about this.

I do wonder about how the courts will deal with the two bas*ards that have been apprehended.

It occurs to me that, should the 'punishment' end up being too lenient, then as their identities will be known, some kind of civil action might succeed. If they argue that 'they haven't any money', then perhaps you could go for the parents, if they are under 18. If they also 'haven't got any money', how easy would it be to impose some kind of repayment scheme, even if it takes them years and leaves them with no spare cash for their own 'fun?' That would be a lasting reminder to them of their own evil actions.

Probably pie in the sky, wishful thinking, but who knows?

Anyway, my commiserations to you and everyone else who has been affected.

Devastating news.

Looking forward ‘we’ need to make sure we value our exhibits appropriately when filling in managers insurance valuations. In the past I probably haven’t, and I hope the exhibition insurers take a pragmatic and realistic response to this unprecedented event.

My goodness, I’ve just seen the photos on the Stamford Mercury website, that’s more than a mindless act of vandalism, that’s a wanton act of destruction.

I can only imagine what those affected must be going through, you have my sincere condolences.

Simply awful and perhaps there are no words which will suffice.

A truly dreadful mindless thing to have happened.

Rarely am I lost for words but I really cannot express myself.

I am appalled to hear about this . As a long time exhibitor of my own models this is a nightmare come real . My sincerest sympathies to those affected .

I am afraid that more security is going to be the only answer, paying more insurance doesn't help . Perhaps we could stage joint events with the Dobermann Club. I personally blame the 'entertainment industry' for its glorification of violence and destruction, such that weak minded individuals think this sort of behavior is fun .

I've just seen the pictures. There's not much that shocks me, however that is incredible..

It looks like they have used one of the kettle bell weights to do a lot of the damage.

We had done a bit of tidying by the time I took this photo, but this was Helmthwaite and Chapel Lane, our 26ft long, two level, O finescale layout that many of you will have seen at other shows.

John,

I too can only echo previous comments and offer my deepest sympathy for your loss and to everyone else affected.

What has happened is something that all exhibitors dread but never think will actually happen.

John,
As all have said my thoughts and cares go out to you, Total madness and I really hope punishment can be made to be effective and long lasting - I think dressed in bright pink and left hanging from some local lamposts for a few weeks might end the problem., not sure what I would use to hang them and on which part of the body it would be tied. Financial penalty as noted would be good but if they have not a lot it is not effective and prison with free TV etc is not a deterent or punishment it seems. Words do also fail me at how folk can think it is ok to behave in this manner, some parts of the world are really broken.

I really hope the of support of all the good will helps and can find in your heart to start again with some modelling - it is therapeutic as many will testify.

This is appalling news, and once again demonstrates, that there are mindless morons in our society, who are bereft of common decency, are totally selfish. If put on the spot, I'm certain they could offer no explanation for their despicable actions. Why, because they lack any innate intelligence!

They are an utter and complete waste of space. Once again I think it's a case of mindless yobs breeding mindless yobs!
