As always there was too much to take in,wether it be layouts, dealers or new models, but still always good to try...!

Anyhow only really managed to take a few picies of a couple layouts, and to be honest there a bit crappy...so apologies...

A lovely show and I really enjoyed Love Lane, had a chat with another big lad, sharing many common ideas.
On the WiFi channel I have used it on Newhurst and other layouts with ECOS, but with the channel set randomly high and it seems to work well that way, worth being familiar with the process changes before shows for speedy channel hopping.

Cliff, the big lad was me, Tim. Really good to meet you and a very good chat, hope to see you around.

Thanks Tim for jogging the memory.
It must have been a record for me with new contacts on the “little railways” and the big railway down the road, the joys of taking on more on the preservation scene for a change.

Two MM London Underground Panniers? Lovely. Looking forward to mine, the first one had crude carrier film transfers fitted which was a big disappointment.

Overview of Back End at Leeds. I’ve operated it a couple of times with the ‘Touchcab’ operating system being both intuitive and reliable. I’m considering using it on a future BLT myself based on Back End/Aberbeeg/Laramie experience. I can only assume it was a bad day at the office which we all get occasionally!

Touchcab is too good to not use. An altenative is to remove the fuses on all the other WiFis in the hall
From my superficial overview it looks a great system to use, unfortunately I have no experience of it but does it have an option to connect via bluetooth? Alternatively have you fixed on a 5GHz wifi connection? It seems that 2.4GHz wifi is competing not only with other wifi signals but also bluetooth and microwave etc. I've not delved into the various comms systems but my understanding is that bluetooth pairing is less susceptible to interference than wifi and the other factor is that 2.4GHz wifi is a noisy environment with bluetooth and microwave in the same band.

Adrian,
the straight answer is that I haven't the faintest idea, they just specified a WiFi router that feeds into the Lenz USB device. I'll go and ask the guys who own Touchcab.
Competing signals on a limited number of channels seems to be one of the technical problems of battery R/C control. Only a LSWR loco could get away with using the pink channel:D.

Hi Simon

Just admiring the two pictures of your The Back End layout, could you tell me please the size of the layout?

Thank you

Mark

We were exhibiting at the York Exhibition at Easter and had similar WiFi problems. It is nothing to do with Touchcab or any similar system but rather down to competing signals from too many routers in a relatively small area. For us it was worse at one end of the layout than the other. It took me awhile to figure out that the worse end was open to the roof and was picking up interference from the mezzanine floors above. The covered end was more sheltered as the ceiling above gave some blocking protection. We were not the only ones though as others using this technology were also having problems.

With the prevalence of these systems becoming greater and greater I feel it should be down to Exhibition organisers to ensure the spectrum does not get too crowded in the hall. As I understand it the worse band to use is 2.4Ghz as there is some overlap between some adjacent channels. Consequently, I have settled on the 5Ghz band as all 12 channels are completely discrete from one another which helps a little. Having said that if there are too many routers working in the same space there will always be problems.
