Just stumbled across a wonderful photographic collection generously made available online by Mr. Sutherland's widow for our benefit. Can't see a link to this on WT so in case it is new to some, here you are:

A well indexed collection - going to take an age to work through it all!

Osgood,

Lots of lovely stuff here, as you say many happy hours looking throughthis,

Thanks for posting this link - there are many photos of the area I'm modelling around Buxton and Manchester - really helpful, and as you say, how lovely of Mr Sutherland's widow to make them available!!

Cheers

Hmm, as published by Ian Allen (I have the book!), even down to the captions.

The Sutherland slides are rather good though.

I suspected these might all be from the book - so I found a s/h copy and have just bought it. Whilst the reproductions online are quite poor and I'm sure do not do the originals justice, the content of the photos is wonderful. I especially like the Dock scene with the saddle tank clanking over a level crossing past those old shops!

A nice pic, yes. I don't want to mention copyright since I'm not really qualified to discuss it, but this the site linked to above (rather than in the OP) is the kind of thing that drives publishers to reach for their lawyers...

Quite so.

Just to clarify, Adam means that site and not this site:p

I have the South Wales book in my collection and I agree about the level crossing shot - an absolute belter:)

Oops. Quite right Simon.

The photo is by John Wiltshire, an excellent photographer active in south Wales in the 50s and 60s. There is an excellent Flickr gallery - at a much, much higher resolution - including many of his images (with copyright acknowledged and seemingly with the permission of the photographer's estate) that can be found here:

Hi Simon

What is the title of the book, looks like one worthy of searching out.
