A field railway

I've never encountered this sort of thing before, Simon; you never fail to surprise!

The fact that it works too is frankly astonishing. Very clever.

Despite this being a temporary and somewhat agricultural apparatus, the ride us still a darned site smoother across it than any of my fettled pieces of permanent way. Respect!

One of the two lignite mines on the layout; this is the operational one; the disused one tunnels deeply underneath in a sweeping and sharp curve. The track seen here is on a gradient which continues into the mine. In reality it can hold up to 20 skip wagons and a loco and is completely enclosed, but accessible. The concrete mine entrance is really tiny; smaller than a 50 pence coin! The internal walls are fully detailed and lined like the prototype and there are two concrete retaining walls either side of the entrance but these are very hard to see due to the dense vegetation.Field R10.jpg
