Here it is a nice coat of blue. One little boo-boo on my part is choosing D866 as I have since found out that that last little batch of Swindon built Warships had the other style of boiler exhaust/panel. Oh well something to change later when we get a 43 conversion pack sorted.
One thing that has to be sorted is the slight overhang of the body to the valence fit where the screws go in which look like a ripple in the body.

Thanks Mr Grumpy! When I saw the 15 guinea special leave Manchester that was the end for me. I don't think I did any serious railway photography afterwards. HOWEVER - that was a mistake. Fortunately, when steam was still around I had no aversion to photographing diesels, hence a reasonable collection of early BR diesels piccies.I just loved the Warships!! When I think back to the, Westerns Warships and Hymecks roaring out of Sonning cutting....oh and also the 'Blue Pullman' It makes me understand how the guys felt when their steam locos were scrapped.

Steve your stretching a point mate to get the 43. Think you should look a little closer at the 42 ! Brian's done as always a great paint job But the front end looks odd in the photos. But then these are not my favourite Locos I'm a little more D600

Sadly it doesn't look fine to me, it could just be the photos but the windscreen angle looks wrong and the curvature on the front isn't the same , the model falls away too quickly for me.
It still looks nice, a bit like the Heljan 40, it looks like one until you really compare it to a photo or the JLTRT one then you can see the errors, I know I have 3 of each of them

The same can be said of the Western Richard, I quite like the Warship though & unless JLTRT do one it's probably the best we will get

They certainly did. I remember them running light engine on the Sou'West main line on their way south. I think I saw 3 of them but Kelly is the only one I can name. I never saw one pull a train. Still haven't!

That about nails it really, windscreen isn't quite the right shape at the lower edge and overall shape, the nose is a bit bulged around the mid handrails and I think the roof profile might be slightly out, the cant rail grills are curved for the lower half and pretty flat for the top half, Heljans look curved through out the whole depth.
It is nice and as you say without detailed comparison looks like a Warship, it looks more like a Warship than the 40 did a 40 so they're improving.
I have to agree with Phil, a JLTRT Warship would be something to look forward to, a Warship and a kit, ticks both my boxes
The old DJH ones were pretty good shape wise as well, but finding one of them is hard work, only seen one MIB in the last three or so years.

I know its wrong but I will still probably buy one, even if it stays in the box as a collectors item.

I think Heljan have been in this game long enough to know that they will eventually sell all they produce, supply and demand, supply just below the expected demand and your going to clear the shelves
Which means in the future, yours will be a tidy investment
