My Turn

Hi

I joined up as a lot of the searches I am doing for 0 Gauge is ending up here. So I though I might as well join up and share the adventure
Just taken a part built N Gauge layout down that was in the garage and moving it into a spare room. In visiting Wigan last month for inspiration I was drawn towards some stunning O gauge layouts

So a bit of research later and I have an M&M Lowmac to hone my soldering skills. The plan was to build a loco after that and I settled on a Class 37. Well that is here and the components cleaned up. Whilst looking for the kit I wanted I came across Warren Shephard's site and the John Summers hoppers. So we now have tow of those ready to solder. The Summers hoppers have memories for me having lived in Bidston when the were running with steam haulage
Well that has put the next thought into place. The hoppers won't look right unless they are behind a nice black and sooty 9f. So now the hunt is on for one of those. This is where, now living in Yorkshire the pocket is starting to hurt, MOK are just about to release a new kit of a 9f, but can I justify the cost

I think a visit to the Huddersfield Modellers might be in order on Thursday night. Then next job will have to be a new workbench thread

Cheers Alan

Hello Alan! Welcome aboard.

We generally like our threads liberally sprinkled with photos. From the sound of it you will have plenty to share soon enough!

Parky outside, and now parky inside. Welcome. Have a biscuit.
That's a heck of an acceleration from a standing start; watch out for whiplash!

Anything with a 9F in works for me..

Cheers

Welcome to you. The Huddersfield Club is an interesting place... a vast place with layouts everywhere you look. Just be careful that you do not get persuaded that the best thing since sliced bread is big, blue and has twin screaming Maybachs.

Thanks for the welcomes
Yes I realise that I am coming in as a bit of a whirlwind with loads on the go. The 9f will have to go on the shelf like most people seem to have until the current workbench is clear. I see a wide range of timescales on here for kits, between days for some and years for others. So I don't see an issue if things tail off. If I don't buy what I want now the run will be sold and then it's a waiting game

Reading further, I recognise DevonBelle from my days in Bristol at the AVR. Also it brings back memories as I read about overslung and underslung BK1 brake gear. I had some great times overhauling the AVR coaches back then. Those comments will go in the relevant thread

I did join the Huddersfield group when we first moved here, so this will be a return. As to Maybachs and Deltics, sorry No, English Electrics for me all the time though I am partial to a nice Perkins unit under our local Class 185's as they climb to 'the other side'.

Welcome to WT, from another Yorkshireman, now exiled in Lincolnshire.

A few on here are looking forward to the MOK 9F, when I spoke to Dave a couple of weeks ago he was working on the instructions. He was hoping for release in December, but January 2016 was looking more realistic.

Got to disappoint you, I am a Lancastrian allowed to live in Yorkshire after 20 years in Bristol/ Keynsham

I spoke to Dave last week and as you say he is working on instructions and hopes to have an example ready for the Reading show. I have sent and expression of interest email so hopefully a reply will arrive next week
