I never get that far. Usually end up in the wonky donkey (Three Legged Mare) via the York Tap and Minster Inn.

My wife and I visit York at least once every year at Easter to see my cousin and visit the Model Railway Show. I actually last made it to the Museum about 5 years ago!

you can see the BR1G tender on Evening Star,at the NRM you can get to the front up the steps to the cab and if you ask nice they will let you up the stairs to the balcony that over looks the loco from the back

Evening Star has to be by far one of best options for photographing any preserved 9f as its not been through the scrap yard. The only other one to come close has to be 92203 Black Prince as that came direct from BR to not via a scrap yard.
