BBC 2 tonight

I agree, a very enjoyable programme from an unusual perspective. It was refreshing not to be talked down to like a child or an anorak. I recently attempted to watch the BBC 4 programme 'Trainspotting Live', which was embarrassingly childish. Even the guy from the NRM seemed to be embarrassed by John Snow - I certainly was.

Yes, I quite enjoyed it too, and reminded me that I must try and get to the Foxfield Railway one day..!

Agree with Davey, definitely much better than that other load of rubbish the other week.
The team certainly have a way of making it entertaining but factual.

I have the whole series on record, my 20 month old lad enjoys a steam loco, perks of living next door to Chinnor Railway.

It was excellent I thought, just the right blend of explanation, enthusiasm and entertainment. The piece on the gravity slate train was fantastic, I had no idea (but then narrow gauge isn't really my thing).

Worth a look on the iPlayer is the whole series of steam days from 1986.

I remember watching some of these when I was about 9 or 10 so looking forward to watching these again. It does seem like railways have a bit of core following at the BBC these days
