The bump stop looks OK, but how would you open the door with that big lump of timber running across them?

Thanks for the thoughts chaps.

The micro strip that I used was 20 thou, which through my terrible maths I equated to around 3/4". I can take the microstrip down a little, but I'm not too worried about it at this point. Once there's a bit of primer on it and a little more contrast, I may well change my mind..

JB,

The beading and panelling on earlier coaching stock was around 3/8" deep which would equate to just under 10 thou in 7mm scale. I would have thought that the beading depth of your era of coaching stock would have been much the same, or maybe less deep with steel construction.

Thanks Jim, maybe I will need to lose a bit then.

When I had the 10 though Evergreen strip in my hands at 4D models, it just looked too small..

I reckon that 1/8" or 3/16" would be nearer the mark for this sort of steel beading. In 4mm I'd use Magic Tape (probably over scale) as I would for boiler bands. 5 thou' is probably about right for the size you're working at and superglue is the best bet for bonding it.

Remember that understatement is better than making things too big!

Well, first workbench post in it's new home from home, guess I'll show you what I've been up to... and what's on the go at the Chapel End Loco works...

I'm sure most of you are aware of the K2 and it's whizzy bits. It's had a bit of a makeover this week, and it's now been completely unbrassed before an outing this weekend. It's also had a bit of weathering below the footplate, but not finished just yet, it still needs a few finishing touches... Weathering above the footplate is to wait until I get myself an airbrush which shouldn't be too far in the future.... Hopefully...
JB, firstly greeting from down under. Love the k2 although think they look better with the Gresley cabs.
The photos outside prove therecis NO SUBSTITUTE for natural daylight.
I think that is why I like the garden railway, sometimes the scenery become less important than the natural scenery
The C1 has been in abayence for a while as I need to get my garden trainset ready for a meetimg on Nov 5th.
Lets hope there is no fireworks LOL

Right then, completely screwed that up, and to be honest, I hadn't detailed the body as much as K2 mk1, so needs stripping.

What are the best, and most 'living in a block of flats friendly' methods of stripping it back to brass?

Having made a complete hash of a few models recently by rushing, I've taken what's probably a worthy step back To work on some older shelf queens.

Just had a leisurely hour or so soldering some rain strips on to the J68 roofs. These were some etches I did a while ago, and forgot I had them.. Definite step up from those in the kit.

I was aiming to join the 'school of no solder' club, but after a sock-full of glass fibres, I decided to leave it until next time..

What are you putting under those roofs?
edited after checking back through your thread.
Those don't look like D & S, They look like some others which I also bought, then baulked at the idea of applying all that waist beading. I still have them in the cupboard.

Hi Geoff, the labels on the kits as I have them are GE kits, but from the instructions, they did have a previous life. They do take a lot of time to clean up, but they'll look okay, and certainly capture the look of a GE coach in my limited knowledge..
