7mm Templot Help request

Are there any Templot experts who would be able to help me draw the attached track plan so I can design the crossovers and points as I'd like to start getting some of this on baseboards.

I should be able to do that, but I need to what the radius is going to be and the maximum limit for the baseboard size etc.

Have a look at the templot forum as well because you can load your plan onto the system and it will do it all automatically to any set scale, its simpler than ive badly described of course! Theres tutorials to follow that are very helpful
You can also load OS Maps etc, very helpful tool
Good luck :)

I'd appreciate that. The drawing is to scale. The distance between the lines is 33mm and the orange is the centre line on the full size for 7mm attached.

If there was a way to import the PDF I could have a go, but I'm not that good at doing the points.

edit. PDF is full size on a single huge piece of paper.

Good stuff!
Itll be fun templot telling you what the point diameters are.
When i was going through the same process with Bow Junction it gave me the extremes of a 1:12 to a three way 1:5 in the yard! I dont think ill try that one somehow!?!?!
But its a fascinating process to find out what the prototype actually did.
Look forward to seeing more of this....
Bestwishes Michael

It looks like you are managing just fine on your Phil.

What is the minimum radius coming out at ?

Well, after several hours and many redo's I've done very little....

Progress.jpeg

My track plan was traced off an original BR plan but I keep coming up against radius under 1750mm, I know the actual site was tight and buffers were often knocked off on the 40's so I may be ok.

The Templot manual isn't finished and I understand that Martin is doing this slowly but working through the forum for answers is hard work.

Trying to work out transitional curves and how does one join track between two existing pieces??? and three ways?? :headbang:

Phil,

Templot is a bit like that, you bang your head on the wall for hours then suddenly pennies drop and clicks do what you thought they would.

Hang in there, it’ll happen in a minute, or two...

Its frustrating and strangely satisfying at the same time....

I made a crossing but still not sure why I have missing rails...

Hi Phil,

I don't have a lot of sympathy. On the download page, and the front page of the Templot Club forum is this message:

One of the reasons I get so downhearted about spending hours and hours on the docs and videos is that I know so many folks simply won't read them. I often feel like giving up. :(

If you had started off learning Templot on a simple branch terminus as an exercise, you would find it so much easier to create your intended layout plan afterwards.

I have recently written this temporary page as a sort of reminder of what Templot is about and how it is intended to work: 99. origins, methods and intent

cheers,

Martin.

Martyn

Please please don't give up, Templot is brilliant, but sadly enough people are not prepared to make the effort to learn how it works to get the best from it.

I'll be designing my diesel loco yard with it shortly.

Hi Phil,

see: 214a changes - new peg positions TEXITP and TMINP - Templot talk - Forums - Templot Club

from which "Setting the minimum possible turnout-road exit is helpful to minimize any discrepancies after inserting a diamond-crossing or a turnout at the intersection of other templates. The underlying template can then be split and shortened back to the exit."

If that's not wanted, click the turnout-road exit back to normal after creating the half-diamonds:

The minimum option is also useful when you want the radius in the exit to differ from the native regular/generic or curviform settings.

cheers,

Martin.

No sympathy required and as with any computer package a learning curve is required. I’ve found Templot to be no different but does have the added complexity of necessarily having many terms that are not intuitively obvious. So a little more effort is required to learn and for myself at least, to relearn every time I come back to it.

I’m actually pretty pleased how I’m getting on and I’m enjoying the process.

I’ll keep the plugging away and working through the tutorials and the forum. I did find that the video links are broken. Are these out of date now or is that a genuine bug?

I know you’ll shake your head in frustration and I should go and read the bloody manual but is there a ‘New’ button option for starting a fresh plan?

Hi Phil,

So why the "pulling my hair out" and "now the hard part" style of posts here and elsewhere? The constant refrain of "Templot is all so difficult" around the hobby doesn't encourage anyone to have a go and find their own enjoyment in the track planning process.
I did find that the video links are broken. Are these out of date now or is that a genuine bug?

I've removed them for two reasons. They are all very out of date and I'm gradually replacing them with updated versions. But also as .exe files they keep getting stuck in folks anti-virus settings and it is just too much work to keep explaining to folks about switching off anti-virus and clicking past security warnings. The Flash versions are no longer supported on many browser/devices and nowadays throw up similar warnings. I'm trying to reduce the amount of sheer work involved in supporting Templot, it is becoming too much of a burden to keep explaining this stuff. The latest videos are in non-executable FBR format which downloads nicely and plays with much better quality in Templot's own video player.
is there a ‘New’ button option for starting a fresh plan?

Just clear the trackpad:

And the same with the background shapes if you don't want them:

clear_all_shapes.png

If you have specific starting conditions for new work, you can create files called start.box and start.bgs which are loaded automatically. Then simply quit and restart Templot. This is a good way of not forgetting to set your gauge/scale.

cheers,

Martin.
