G3 in Australia

It has been a long time ...
Such is the nature of railway modelling if you have another life (but why have any other life, I hear people saying).
I have "bitten the bullet", and bought myself a locomotive in G3.
I don't have any track to run it on, but once I have sorted out my UK bank account I will order some from Cliff Barker.
I don't have any trucks to run it with, but once I have sorted out my UK bank account I will order some from Mike Williams.
It is a coal-fired live-steam 2-6-0 "Dyak" from Station Road Steam. As far as I can tell it hasn't been steamed in years, but it "ticks all the right boxes" for me: coal fired live steam, proper 2-cylinder propulsion, even Walshaerts valve gear. Talk about trying to run before you can walk ....
I have decided to take a schizophrenic approach to this project: build a garden-railway with S7-like pretentions (given my history in S7) - some nice scale-model wagons, and scale track, but with a choice of my live-steam, burning-coal-smell "Dyak" 2-6-0 tender engine, or a radio-controlled L&Y 0-4-0 "Pug". Trouble is I don't know where to start with either the 2-6-0 or the 0-4-0.
I have local offers of help with the live steam project - people who run 5-inch locomotives and will look on this as small stuff.
So I will keep you all posted (when it arrives)!

David, welcome to the world of G3 (it's good to have something to go too, when the big stuff gets to heavy to lift.....!!!:)):)) )

When you say, radio- controlled L&Y Pug, do mean battery powered R/C? If so, keep your powder dry, I'm aware of a 'project' that, at the moment is in it's early stages of 'low key' development. As they say - watch this space.

Also, I'm aware of a G3 member who has abandoned a garden railway project & is selling of a large amount of track, pointwork etc., he's got it listed on Fleabay - but if you want I can PM his contact details.

Also, you could have a wander around here - www.gauge3.org.uk or here www.g3forum.org.uk - various items of interest, the buy & sell section of the G3 website has a list of the above mentioned track sale.

All the best

Great to read your update David. On the forum Barry mentions there is for sale one of my GWR Mink kits, unstarted.

I am seriously, SERIOUSLY interested in the idea of someone helping with a radio-contolled battery-powered L&Y 0-4-0 , as that is exactly what I want to make.
Please, if you can, tell me more, and what I could do to help.
