Hi all, Well having signed up today, I thought I'd better start a Thread and tell you a little about myself and about my current project (New Mills) that I started last Saturday, (15th June 2019).
My main love is building new Layouts, and since Christmas I have built Bala Town in O Gauge, Kingsmill (Midland Road) TMD, and Mason Street (Goods) both in OO, and can be viewed on another well known Forum. These 3 have now been sold and so I have half of TOPS, (The Old Potting Shed) for the new Layout down one side. On the Window side I have another O Gauge Project, Seven Mills Sidings, taking the full 17ft length and that is 2ft wide and set in the same period as New Mills, i.e. late 80's Blue / Railfreight.

New Mills depicts a fictional backwater Junction with mainly Freight operation and the occasional passing Passenger Services and is set in the late 80's. It also depicts a couple of Sidings left over from when there was a Station the other side of the Road Bridge and that are just about still in use.

Total length is 17ft including the two 46 inch Sector Fiddle Yards and a 9ft Scenic Section in the middle. The width is a mere 16 inches.

Here is the Track Plan.

Hi Andy,

Welcome to WT, looks an interesting layout. As you have probably noticed, we like lots of pictures with the words of explanation, so you have made a good start. I too have just started a 4mm plank, which I shall be posting up shortly.

Looking forward to the next episode.

regards

Good stuff, Andy.

This should be finished soon...............how about a 'cameo ' layout next?.....you know, something about four foot long...How many of those could you fit in ?

Thanks for the warm welcome Brian, Ade, Alan, John and Mike, I will post some more pics of progress soon, but as the next stage involves a lot of wires being soldered to droppers, and from Point Motors, it may be a tadge to boring for most.

Today I will be working out the position of the Switch Panel, and the Controller. I've a Gaugemaster Prodigy 2 on here but an Ace SignaTrak on my Seven Mills Sidings, so still undecided whether to use the SignaTrack on here as well. I have 2 Hand sets for each system so that visitors can be kept occupied whilst chewing the fat etc.

I'll also be hacking away some wood from between the single and Main Lines to drop the land level down and forming embankments. I'll also do this along a bit of the front, and hopefully I may just have enough depth for a Stream passing under somewhere.

More updates soon.
Andy.

Hi Rob, And thanks.
Well 4 x 4ft's in the 17.5ft length and maybe just build a standard Fiddle yard that fits all.

More food for thought, haha:)

A nice relaxing morning in TOPS, and finally laid the Track in both Fiddle Yards.

I'm not sure about the position of the Prodigy yet, and I may even use my ACE SigNaTrak on here as well.

Cheers George, it is a lot slower than I'm used to, but I'm sure I'll get used to that eventually mate.

Andy, this site has nothing like the "grunt" of RMweb, and so it will likely be a bit slower.

It is is also quieter and smaller, if too many people decamp from RMweb it will probably grind to a halt;)

We can all help ourselves by not loading humungous image sizes, they really don't need to be more than IMB apiece absolute tops, in my opinion.

A lot here don't agree with me, and consequently their threads load very slowly!

Your image sizes I would say are perfect, so no problem whatever to upload them as full size rather than thumbnails.

Hi Andy,

trackwork looking good, but would look even better if you could post your pictures as 'full size' rather than 'thumbnails', especially for the hard of hearing like me:)):))

Cheers Mike and Simon, I did hit the Full size icon, but this batch have come out small, I prefer the full size as before I joined I could read threads but not see any pics.
If I post any more I will do less and try and do them full size as pre the first few in this thread.

Thanks Guys.

Nice to see you here Andy, I'm a bit late to the party, so it's probably finished now!!! ;)

Thanks David, Several Yards of wiring to do next, plus I'm looking at adding the ends of a Platform coming out from under the Road Bridge, aka George's Grundy Street and Hugh Flynn's classic Sheffield, as I picked up another 150 DMU from Rails second hand Emporium yesterday.
This gives me Regional Rails 150/0, a 150/1, and a 153 for the Passenger services through New Mills now.

I decided to bite the bullet today and I've ordered a Traintronics Two Aspect Signal with Left Feather and some more normal Red / Amber Signals and a couple more Ground Signals. They will all be worked from a 12 bank Peco Switch Frame.

I know some of the Signals are in the wrong place and far to close together, but I just fancied some light and colour and to make operation more interesting.
