After yesterday's frenetic activity, today was spent relaxing in the garden, running trains, chatting and photographing different models out on the line.

Steve got his coaches out, posed here behind D6319, looking like a diverted WR line express to me...

Kingswear Castle on an up express diverted over the Southern route (sea wall out of action again:p) passes a down local service at Wenbridge:

I did say it was a reputation... such things are not always grounded in fact.... like when I used to have a VW Beetle; the amount of people who'd say to me "these don't rust, do they?" - when in fact by their very design they had a built-in flaw which virtually guaranteed that the bottom 4 inches of body work would rot away from the inside.... :(

Simon does this Line now it is complete warrant a name yet?

I'm still considering the options, I am pretty certain I have imagined that the station is the junction for the line to Bude (built along the Bude Canal) above Launceston and that the line, although still single like the North Cornwall, actually terminates in Falmouth, in my history the Cornwall Railway built the central Cornwall route instead of the coast route, arriving in Falmouth a good few years earlier than it actually did and before the packet service was taken away (1851)

At more or less the same time the Great Western built the coastal route, not to be completely outdone by the narrow gauge camp, which resulted in the Truro to Falmouth line being operated as a joint railway. (In reality the tunnels were built for double broad gauge) Falmouth accordingly prospers where it slightly faltered in actual history, maybe the packet service from there lasted longer than 1851, all of which means that my named express is the "Atlantic Packet Express" - sort of aping the ACE, if I see what I mean:p

Well you did ask..

The station may stay as Wenbridge Junction but I think I need a name for the route/line, I guess The "Central Cornwall" is as good as any.

Maybe "Launceston Road" (like Bodmin Road, quite like that) or "Bude Junction", hmmmm

About to bunk off for some more soldering of track wiring

Thanks for the comments, I'm still pondering but suspect that Launceston Road is where I'm headed.

In other news I repaired another ballast washout last night and on Wednesday did quite a lot of soldering at the junction site which is where the dodgiest joints were, which has pretty much removed the voltage drop/slowing down on the new section of track.

Setting the Class 22 out on the line afterwards and enjoying seeing it canter across the lawn towing the toad with newly acquired TME lamps on the lamp irons, it came to grief when it ran into a plum that had fallen into the four foot behind the sheds!

This caused the delrin chain to part, I put it back together and tried again (I ate the plum). Sadly, or perhaps not in the longer run, it then suffered a more spectacular failure which involved damage to the nylon gearwheel on the axle and the detachment of the delving drive chain. All due to a combination of slight rubbing of chain against gearwheel and overheating motor.

I think it might still limp, but I am going to have to change the motor and drive. Simplest and quickest will be a call to ABC gears I think and a Maxon driven gearbox with the "economy" delrin drive, I know Rob Cant used two of these and thinks just one would do the job.

It is a pain, but on the other hand I couldn't just let the Class 22 run which is what I want to do, the trusty Ruston still gives good service but it looks a bit daft out on the main line and won't pull much either!

Onwards and upwards.....

Sounds to me like your Class 22 was being entirely prototypical.... :D ;)

It does illustrate the hazards of a garden line though.... "wrong kind of fruit on the tracks".....
