Civil Airliners - or Now for Something Completely Different

Phew, that's a relief. Every day brings up a micro check on the little grey cells and it's nice to still get the odd success! An ageing rock god once said 'If marijuana wrecks the short term memory, what does marijuana do?' but the rock 'n roll years completely passed me by unfortunately so...

Civil Airliners - or Now for Something Completely Different

Dave, Sorry to butt in, but I've been thinking about this ever since I read it. It's depressing quite how much I've forgotten, especially after too long on the gallic pretender, but didn't the Classics have an Aux (Electric) pump to pressurise sys 4 for brakes in case of towbar snapping...

    G3 NG (Spur IIe) loco

I say Richard, that looks to be just the job. Many thanks to both of you.

    G3 NG (Spur IIe) loco

Ah, hadn't thought of that- some kind of grit blasting might be a good idea. Thank you Trevor, I'll google about.

    G3 NG (Spur IIe) loco

Thanks both, very kind. More as an excuse to try a new camera, here's a view showing the large cylinder stretcher and firebox 'foundation ring' soldered in place. Dummy axles through axleboxes were used during the process to keep things honest. The foundation ring also carries a...

    G3 NG (Spur IIe) loco

Just about to start erecting the frames today, but a final check of whether all the internal bits were in place reminded me that the sandboxes needed fixing. Well, making first then fixing. Milled to shape, they were fitted with then mounted using representations of brackets top and bottom. The...

    1/32 Devoran Quay

A Happy New Year to you, Simon. Surprised but delighted, I received a jewel of a book for Christmas- 'On the Trail of the Titfield Thunderbolt', written by a young and very knowledgable chap.

    G3 NG (Spur IIe) loco

ps I went onto the Spur II website to check the gauge details, and had a trawl about. This caught my eye. Another wormhole to fall into. Foto-Galerie - Straßenbahn - Hr. Schartmann - Powered by PhotoPost

    G3 NG (Spur IIe) loco

Thank you Ian. Ref. gauges, as you'll know, the Spur IIe standards define 32mm as suitable for prototypes between 650 and 850mm (All the odd ones between 2ft 3in and 2ft 11in.), so a handy catch- all.

    G3 NG (Spur IIe) loco

Slow progress, but enough major sub components are now completed to allow erection of the mainframes next. Sorry it all still looks so grubby.

    Literally excellent.

    G3 NG (Spur IIe) loco

A quick record of some progress. Sorry they look a bit grubby; they are not quite that bad in reality. Various fiddly bits of brass, (fiddly for me- I'm in awe of people on here that can do better in 7mm or smaller), plus M0.8 bolts, nuts and washers, plus M0.8 rivets pin them all together...

Liskeard and Caradon Railway 6 ton open wagon

Jon, The wheels look just right under that wagon. Jamie Ahh, might they be turned up from the Mark Wood wheel castings (X315) for Lion's tender- as you suspected?

Excellent! (What wheels do you use Jon?)

    G3 NG (Spur IIe) loco

Could I please ask whether anyone could point me in the direction of a decent photo showing backhead detail of a MW narrow gauge loco? I think these locos had an oval firebox door simply hinged on the RHS, but can't remember where I got that from so would appreciate some kind of evidence. It's...

Civil Airliners - or Now for Something Completely Different

The 1-11 also used demin water (not water/ meth) in their Speys. Generally not needed for charter take offs from Gatwick, but often needed from hotter, smaller, airfields on return sectors in Summer. It was carried in plastic tanks in the hold, to be manhandled out on turnround if needed, then...
