    Newbie/G1/45mm track advice please

Hi Richard. I would say you are free to choose any track that counts as 'standard', rather than any finescale alternatives. The key point is that your Barrett loco and your narrow gauge engines will both run with a 40mm back to back (both 16mm engines can be converted to 45mm), so you'll be OK...

Thanks Tim :) Its nice to be building again, and remembering to slow down! Thanks Michael. In terms of the seals, they just popped off the build plate. One of the joys of the Prusa is the coated spring steel plate - once you have the squidge of the first layer dialled in then you can just print...

The window seals were next - drawn up in Fusion360 to be 2mm wide and 0.8mm thick. I set up the critical dimensions so that I only had one thing to alter on each model to create the seals for the front / rear, side and door. All four drawings were sent to my 3D printer and it was set to work...

The material for the grills arrived this week, a 300mm x 300mm sheet of 16 LPI Brass mesh via Amazon. Its was a bit of gamble on the mesh, I had my fingers crossed that I could squeeze it to create the more distinctive diamond shape that the prototype has As delivered its very square I...

Hi Michael The shooting board is all your fault! I saw you demonstrate one over on the Gnatterbox forum and if my memory serves I think you provided instructions as well - I didn't have any acrylic to hand but was able to cobble one together from mdf. I have to say, once you've used one, its...

Thanks Neil - using a Dremel & diamond cutting disk hadn't even occurred to me, I shall try that on the next build

One of the reasons I chose this design was its basic simplicity, essentially two styrene boxes with angled upper panels. First up was the bonnet, the basic frame being made from 2mm styrene whilst the front panel has a 0.5mm skin over the front of the carcass to leave me a recess behind to glue...

Scattergun 3.5” King Arthur ‘Sir Sagramore’

You are really keeping up the standard on this loco Tim - great to see. Also delighted to know you will be running it - it deserves to stretch its legs and gain a gentle patina of use benefiting the hours that have gone into its construction  Steve

I ordered a chassis from Essel Engineering in Dec 2021 to give me a basis for my K40 project - I'm pleased to say it arrived yesterday and its a lovely piece of work. For reference its their 010C chassis with a 90mm wheelbase and 7/8ths scale wheel treads. Whilst I've been waiting I've been...

There some quality engineering in this loco Tim, its an absolute beaut! Pleased to see you were able to fix the boiler...tries not to say full steam ahead... Good luck with carrying on the build, its going to be so worth it to see it in steam. Steve

    Signalling Layout Signalling

Hi Graham - I have just added Permanent Way and Signalling as prefixes which weren't available before - you can choose those or scales. I agree its a small compromise - don't forget that one can always be more prescriptive in the thread title... Creating another independent sub-forum is more...

    Signalling Layout Signalling

Evening All. New section for signalling created as an add-on to the permanent way section. I have added two new prefixes for you to make it easier to differentiate - you can also choose one of the scales if the question is model orientated rather than prototype. Any problems, please give me a...
