So if Jonpaul is the founding member of the "never finish anything" section of this forum  ;D, then preusmably you are the seconder...  ;D ;D

I wish to apply for an honorary (?) position in this select body, although I did finish something, sometime, somewhere...  :) (that is not a reference to lunch, just the GUV-nor does not like references to other places where WTs might otherwise be found).
I dont mind post away  :)) If you have finished something lets see it  :thumbs:

Thanks for the advice everybody, i've thought about removing the axle boxes but i agree with JP and it seems like a lot of hard work so i'll try and source some more from the suppliers you've recommended. Also i'm hoping these will be a more accurate match to the wagon i'm modelling. With regards to the builders plate lokking at the picture I was happy with likeness so I just used the MMP ones. In any case it shall be covered in grime and rust later so it should be a reasonable representation!!

Best regards Mick

Cheers Mick

Please excuse me here, I acknowedge that I have not had a geography lesson since (uhm) 1967 ::)  however I do not think that any town of the British Isles has moved any great distance since then!  Mick, you have been happily telling us all that you have embraced the true way of the leader Scal-Sven  ;) (see the Basilica Fields wordpress blog of Mr. Buckjumper  :thumbs:) and that you are a fully paid-up / card carrying member of the West Mersea Glee Club....  and you work in Wakefield?

So what is to stop Mick from showing Rob the way to enlightenment and offering him a lift to the great emporium of Sudbury?

regards Graham

Hi Rob,

I work at an industrial unit off Junction 41 as dare I say it, .......... a Police Constable ( inviting slander and abuse from all corners  :)) :))).

Graham,

Tis true I reside in the North Riding of Yorkshire and travel about forty minutes to work. When I joined the Scale 7 Society I looked for my nearest area group and to be honest none were close but the East Anglian Group had already caught my eye and the West Mersea pjoject is really somehing to behold, so I made contact and was welcomed with open arms and it seems i'm not the most distant member. I'll try my best to convert Rob in any case  :)), ok bring on the plod jokes  :headbang: :headbang: :)),

Thought I'd bob a quick post on here instead of clogging up Eastside Pilot's Workbench. The loco mentioned during a discussion about future builds is Raven A7 69781, pictured below basking in the sunshine at Springhead. I fell in love with these types of engines when I first clapped eyes on them, powerful looking bruts and although i'll get strung up for saying this remind me of some of the GWR heavy tanks  :eek: :eek: Anyway, it's food for thought and a project to think about for next year...........

I do like the unusual stuff Mick, it doe's look a hefty brute, will this be a scratch build or is there a kit available ?.... said he being too lazy to look through the kit manufactures lists  :))... and is it an accurate kit?! :thumbs:

The A7 will be a scratch build as i'm pretty sure a kit doesn't exist ? The more I read about etching and see how well JB and others have got on the more I want to have a go. So next year when i'll probably make a start on this it may be my first efforts in etching. I kind of made a start as i've had a good look at the drawings at York and am in the process of turning up a lorry load of NER taper buffers for other engines so i'll set aside a set for the A7  :))

Just a quick update as to whats happening on my Workbench. First job was to set about hacking up my BV's so that I could fit sprung W-irons and S7 wheels. What a pain in the backside this was, I went through a job lot of blades and made a right mess :headbang: :headbang:

[attachimg=1]

[attachimg=2]

I also had a day out to Shildon and took some pictures of an LNER van there to model the vacum cylinder assembley and underframe details. The BR vans didn't have these fitted,

[attachimg=3]

Not a great picture but it was inside a goods shed  :shit: Both vans are nearly finished and this one needs the vacum cylinder and another few bits finishing. Couplings and buffers fitted for now for the West Mersea test run  :thumbs:

[attachimg=4]

Also nearly there on the Tube wagon, I just need some suitable axleboes, door chains ( from the place Steph recommended ) and a replacement buffer. I bought some JP recommended for Invertrain but managed to damage one housing beyond repair  :headbang: :headbang: A trip to Halifax in June should source these parts.

This next one doesn't really belong in Area 51, it's a Western Infiltrator  :)) :)) It's a GWR Pyton CCT, an old DJB Kit. This is a commision build and a straight from the box build with F/S wheels was requested. It's responsible for holding up work on my projects as it's taken a few hours to sort :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: I've had a few problems with it but it's not a bad kit, the instructions are none existent and I don't like the all in one pre rolled body sides and roof.  I've really struggled finding pictures of these in service in the 1950's and can only find preserved examples. Can anyone help with suitable pictures and or advice as to what colour it should be and the where the numbering goes. I'm assuming it should be carmine ????

I will have a look in Russell tonight for python shots, im pretty sure I can find something suitable for the early 50's when they were still most likely in post war GW livery.

Ruddy 'ell, we'll have brake vans coming out of our ears next Sunday. Maybe we'll need a LCGB brake van special excursion...!!

Thanks Cynric, much appreciated. I don't have a great deal of information on all things GWR.

We could mock up a rudementry smoke box door name board for the K2  :)) :)) :)) I think fixing detonators to the track is a little too far though, Peter would not be impressed  :)) :)) :))

Just a quick update as to what i've been upto. My recent visit to west Mersea has spurred me on to get on with something so i've made a start on the G5 and J73. G5 first and i'll post some bits about the J73 when I have a bit more to show,

I've made a start on the body and the first thing to do was to make a new cab rear with the later profile of window as my loco will have a cage and hopper on the Bunker. The kit supplies an etched overlay for the original cab back but I wanted to make the windows opening so I cut out the window frames from the etch and made a new cab rear from brass sheet;

[attachimg=1]

[attachimg=2]

[attachimg=3]

I also made the front windows opening,

[attachimg=4]

[attachimg=5]

And finally for now the main body starting to come together,

[attachimg=6]

[attachimg=7]

The body is a slot and tab construction to the main footplate but I wanted to make the assembly removable for ease of painting. So I removed the tabs and put the body together on a peice of glass. I've also made a bunker bottom to stengthen the assembly, this will be used to fix to the footplate along with fixings for the tanks in the same fashion,
