A Nice Little S7 Layout

I remember Wyebridge High street very well, it made such an impression on me due to it's simplicity and high standards - so much so I actually kept the BRM mag (Sep 2003) that it appeared in. I presume that it has moved on to make way for the "new" Wyebridge, which, judging from the photo's is equally superb. I do hope that I will get to see it in the flesh!

Hi Mark (and welcome to the forum!). :)

I still have the BRM Wyebridge article too funnily enough and it made a lasting impression on me as well. I think I prefer the new layout more though, simply because there's more of it. Hopefully, I'll see it again at some point.

Your wish is my command :)) Nice video - apart from the music :)) no sound chips?

Being the originator of the video, let me (belatedly) answer!

All the locos had sound chips, but as you can imagine in a busy hall packed with modellers nattering away, the sound effects would have been drowned out - not to mention the editing making it even worse. That's why I substituted the annoying copyright free music.

The video quality, as already mentioned, suffered from a lot of digital noise. The lighting was indifferent, the layout placed under a large and bright window, and wanting to retain a good depth of field meant I had to boost the ISO to compensate for the small aperture I used. (Pause for whooshing noise to pass.)

Given time, I'd have had the window blocked, and set up the video lighting rig, but that would have inconvenienced everyone else present, so I ran with what I could do. I learned a lot from that little video, mainly how hard it can be to make a story from random movements, and shoot without proper lighting.

Anyway, glad you liked it!

FWIW I havent seen many railway videos with a good soundtrack, the best have been with copyright music.
I was once told that shooting good video is like preparing presentations - a days work and preparation for 5-10 minutes action;)

I've just acquired WYEBRIDGE - Julian's delivering it here tomorrow, after which I hope in my spare time to add my own personal touches to it over the coming months. There are one or two things I'd like to change slightly and I plan to represent it at a later stage in its fictional life, suggesting its final decline and imminent closure.

I really like overgrown, rusty tracks and general decrepitude (possibly says more about me than anything else . . .) so once it's at a level I'd like to attain, maybe I'll be invited to exhibit with it at some stage and those who enjoyed it previously will be able to see it running again. It's quite a responsibility taking over an existing model that's already much admired so I hope I can do it justice.
Julian's done most of the hard work because those who've seen it will already know it does run very sweetly and when I helped operate it very briefly at Wells this year, hearing he was possibly having to scrap it to salvage a few bits for a new project, I just couldn't help myself and offered to purchase it, to which suggestion he happily agreed.

I've already organised a Lionheart pannier in BR black that's shortly having its wheels reset to S7 dimensions prior to me giving it the full weathered treatment and I'm part way through building a diesel shunter. Further Lionheart S7 wagons will also be ordered shortly but I'm looking for ideas for a suitable WR DMU that could be suitable for this layout. Sound will be an important part of all of this and I have loads of ideas on this aspect rattling around my head.

That's the plan and if I may, I'll update progress here from time to time.
