I've been thinking about a couple of diesels for Bleat Wharf; Matt.

A 08 and a class 22 would fit the bill.......mmmmmm. ...ponder, ponder.

Handrails are simple to do no need for jigs or even to measure.
Take your wire, bend down one end. Insert this into one hole, now hold the wire with your pliers between the first and second hole. The second hole needs to be just visible to the side of the pliers. Now lift handrail off. Fold down second end and trim to length. This is quicker to do than explain. Saves wire, measure and time. After the first two or three it becomes very easy.
I did buy both the 4mm and 7mm versions of above until someone explained the above to me, now I don't even know where they are.

I've got the handrail bending jig, find it difficult to use myself but that could be me!

I tend to use the method Peter mentions, but still can't get it right! :headbang:

With you on this Matt.

I have a Bill Bedford jiggy thing and still manage to make a horse's arse of bending handrails............

Lots of trials and an inordinate amount of errors.........

Glad I'm not the only one!

Mrs O suggested we take toddler O to the nearby National Trust site today and I grudgingly agreed. I'm now glad I did as I was able to pick the books below up from their second hand book stall for the princely sun of £6!

Bargain!

Result :bowdown: - I might have to start visiting a few more NT sites if that is what you can get.

Not seen them elsewhere, so it may have been a case of right place, right time. Still, I'm pretty pleased with my luck.

Spurred on by the three shunter books, I started on the job I'd been putting off...making replacement handrails. One side done so far:

It's debatable if it was really worth it, but I think it (just about) was. Not really clear in the photo are the Tim Horn spring overlays. Both the springs, and the handrails, need a bit of adjustment before final assembly.

Still plenty to do: new buffers, couplings and steps and then a repaint.

I did consider Lazerglaze windows but a) I can't get hold of any and b) might not really be worth it given how small most of the windows actually are.

Hi Matt,

I think the cumulative effect is well worth it - and there might be some benefit to the Lazerglaze on the big windows at the rear but as you say, getting hold of it is a bit of a hassle...

Not the slightest bit china clay related but I decided to repaint this Parkside CCT that I originally built and painted 2 years ago (I think). I was really disappointed with it, both the shade of blue which had an overly green tint to it in my eyes, and also the poor weathering.

So, I've redone it mainly as some continued underframe weathering practice. I think it's turned out OK second time around.

Just needs some new markings to finish it off.

Very nice indeed Matt, I really like that faded blue and the way that it blends into the solebars and underframe.

Turned out pretty darn good Matt, would do very well in the “How realistic are your models, photo challenge “ if there was one!

I have two of the jigs bolted together with a nut inbetween, this ensures the first and second bends are in the same plane and ensures fewer fails - My next mod is to fix bottom plate on to a peg to go into the vice on the bench so having both hands free to work on the job.

Hopefully no one minds me posting this here, although it doesn't really fit in with either of my layout threads.

Recently been reworking this old Bachmann HEA hopper wagon with a new paint job:

Other than a repaint, all I've done is add the grabrails to the hopper ends and replace the ladders with etched ones.

Now to decide what to do with it....
