A self contained O Gauge wharf layout

I have been working on this little layout for a customer and it is about finished. Although only 8'6" x 2' 6" it has lots of shunting potential.

This is the plan as originally drawn:

WHARF LAYOUT PLAN SMALL.jpg

As built it follows the plan pretty closely, using the warehouse as an off scene storage track (you can't really call it a fiddle yard!). For obvious reasons the warehouse is removeable.

The period is the early 1960's (depending on when the 05 was built!)

I have used Peco Set Track and in a location like this it looks OK; the loco's have no problems running through the sharp points.

The layout could very easily be operated with stock from an earlier era with few alterations.

The idea is that the centre line runs through the gate to the outside world, curving sharply in front of the shop.

As it's too damp this morning to put the layout up outside I've had a play indoors, backdating it to the 1880's with the stock from Saltdean. I know the track would have looked different then, but other than that I just had to keep the phone box and Bill Haley graffiti out of the pictures.

It's just a bit of fun, it will be back to the 1960's from now on.
