For no other reason than that it was quite exciting here's a few rather scrappy phone photos I took of Flying Scotsman going through Tring on the WCML last night. It was running from East Lancs Railway to the Mid-Hants Railway with its support coach. It was booked to wait at Tring from 18.31 to 18.45 to let the Southern service to East Croydon pass. It was pretty well dead on time.

Considering it was bitterly cold and windy there were a surprising number of people around, mostly families with children. In the cold the steam effects were pretty good too. I was very much a non-believer of FS.....until I went to see it at KingsX with little man.

We're both big fans of it now.. Desperately hoping I get a ride on it one day on a preserved line somewhere...

JB.

Still fond memories of that engine from her apple green days and running the number 4472. back in '91 we watched her sail around the east anglia lines on the Fenline steam weekend I think it was called. along with Britania, a class 101 and another loco that escapes me in my half asleep daze. The last day of running I think it was on a very crowded Cambridge platform that now doesnt even exist anymore I remember the raffle being drawn, my dad off in the toilets completely unaware his number was called so an old neighbour that was with us at the time went to collect him and then I remember seeing him raise his prize above his head and above the crowd to proudly show us what he'd won with a huge grin on his face.. the prize, the Name plate that rode from Cambridge to Kings lynn on the front of 4472 "The Cambridge Blue".
Maybe one day I might be allowed to have it to proudly have on my wall to keep that memory alive!

I remember taking my dad to see it as it thundered through Downham Market, was it that long ago.

I remember taking my dad to see it as it thundered through Downham Market, was it that long ago.

October 20th-21st 1991 one of the other memories I have is standing in a very windy open field near the railway between Ely and Cambridge just so dad could get some video footage of 4472 wailing past at speed. Sadly there seems to be very little photographs or footage of it available on the internet though!
