1/32 Axle diameters

Is there a preferred axle diameter for driving and bogie wheels, bit like O gauge 3/16 and 5/32" sort of thing.

Granted if you're boring your own cast wheels then it can be what ever you like, but I'm just wondering if there's a general accepted size.

Couple of diesel wheel axles I have here (Slaters I think as they have a grub screw to hold them on) are 3/16".

Cheers MD.

Richard,

Thanks, if I'd of looked at Slaters and Marks (Wood) pages a little better I'd of found that out myself  though it doesn't look like Slaters do bearings, they probably do but they're a little illusive right now.....it's been a very long week

If it's 1/4" , you can check out the gauge 3 suppliers. I think GRS do some top hat or slotted ones. Mike Williams or Walsall may also supply them.

Richard, cheers, took a while to find, they're 7920 and 8920 :D, I suspect they're top hat bearings which are fine for bogies and trailing axles or rigid drivers.

Mark Wood does some slotted ones for 1/4" and I could always use Slaters 3/16" slotted ones for the smaller axles.

Geoff, I'll have a look at GRS and Mike Williams tomorrow and couldn't see any one Walsall Models, but my track record this evening isn't that good on web searching

Just trying to get my head around what's out there before expending a load of time in CAD and then having to redo it all to suit the available bearings.
