Here's a very simple specimen, brought to you by the good people of Model Railroader. Despite being pared down to a basic silhouette, it's one of the most effective I've seen in a long while.

Returning to the point of the OP, it is an incredibly effective backscene - but is that despite, or because of it's simplicity...?!?!  :scratch: ???

It is wonderfully simple, yet perfectly executed and compliments the railway/models really well without overpowering the scene..........wow!!
