During my travels through many many threads I've noticed that there are different stages of membership, as in the following, Probably got wrong order but you get the picture.

Western Thunderer.

What is the above based on, length of membership, post count, likes ect. So how do you become a WT.
I did some searches but couldn't find anything.

Regards
John.

Here is at least one answer to your quest...

Western Thunder "trophies"

"Guest" is shown for those peeps who were WTers when the post was written... and subsequently parted company with WT.

The Guv'nor's list of trophies are available to all who join this forum... there are a few other "trophy titles" which were given at different times in the past... Mid Western Thunderer is one of those and reflects interests in the railways of the Mid-West of America (Jordan - correct? are you the only Wter with that honour?). I recollect that there may be another honorary trophy of "Colonel of the Blue Brigade" - or something similar - for the WTer who tries to keep the BB in line and on target.

This is a change then from the earlier tariff which was based on points not just posts. The points tariff was linked to 'likes' and also the number posts. This was explained in the post referred to above which has been altered and replaced with different content.

Correct - it did change last year, a few months ago when I updated the forum software.

When originally installed the forum software had a trophy based title ladder system where members accrued points for various activities. This was an effort by the forum designers at "gamification" to reward engagement. Only in the latest forum update has it allowed us to turn off the trophy based system. I thought that the membership on WT was above simply scoring points and I didn't think that the trophy based system added anything to the forum. In an ideal world it would be nice to reward content and contribution rather than quantity, but what I think is useful will be different to what others feel is useful, so I'm not sure we could ever devise a system within the current framework that was a fair reflection of people's contribution. This is one reason why the post count for the various levels is set to what I consider to be quite low.

I want to post an advert for some narrow gauge stuff from the collection of a late friend. According to the post at the start of Small Ads I need to have made 15 posts, which I have just achieved. However that forum still says I don't have enough privileges. Is that as a result of your changes? If so the post needs updating.

If anyone reading this is interested it is advertised on the GOG Forum here: http://www.gauge0guild.com/Sales_wants/Sales_wants_display.aspx

The system to update privileges on post count only runs once a day so as your 15th. post was logged just today it might not have caught up yet. If you could try again tomorrow and let me know if it works properly I'd appreciate it.
