Re rail services------------------ALL DAY Sunday between Paddington/South Wales--diverted AND NOT calling Didcot/Swindon/Chippenham/Bristol Parkway replacement buses .Some services amended, others WONT RUN-------use the jam jar instead------unless you like buses...........BW

I checked with National Rail before posting yesterday and they will be calling at Bristol Parkway, they're just going via Temple Meads to get here which is a slightly longer way round than usual.

It's not an unusual state of affairs to be honest; Parkway is my local station so I try to keep abreast of what's going on here. It would be a shame for both the show and travelling public if people didn't make the trip when it's entirely possible:

With the ongoing shambles of the London to South Wales electrification and it's continuing effects on Sunday travel, I think GWR are perhaps trying to reduce Sunday travel demand. My last few experiences of travelling on a Sunday have been pleasant, with quiet trains running generally to their (amended) timetables. I gave up using GWR's website for travel information when I successfully caught a Sunday train from Paddington to South Wales that went directly through to Bristol Parkway on a weekend when there were supposed to be no trains stopping at BPW at all!

Other than their staff seeming less stressed and wearing green uniforms, underneath it's still FGW...

As it looks to be warming up I have had to oil the deck chairs for Sunday. I have been tasked with signing the route across campus in case a pensioner goes forth across the campus approx. a 1/2 - 3/4 mile walk . We are running a vintage bus service from car park but being vintage does not lower for wheel chair access must apologize. Also separate service for park way same applies no lowering service. To get to bus stop at over flow walk back the way you have came into car park, and to the rear of the gate house is the main bus stopping area. We hope to erect a stop sign so nobody has to lay in the road . Hope this is of help

If you have a disabled person and is possible to drop said person at entrance in the warm whilst you walk from where you parked the car they can get the teas in whilst they wait for you to catch up ( tongue in cheek )we are a hobby of old men/ women never enough dis /spaces.

Sounds good that there is now an additional bus laid on for the overflow car park. I was aiming to use that car park as I am hoping there will be enough space to not have to worry about getting my car dented

The Uni is well signposted and possibly easier to find the main entrance than the exhibition centre so my punt is go for that and the overflow car parks. Must admit I am a bit biased as I spent 4 years attending the place back in the 90's

Just have to hope I can do the trip in the usual 3.5 hours each way

I am sadly unable to attend this year and I am extremely displeased !

Always a worthwhile show and never fails to bring pleasure in many ways.

May I be so bold as to ask if anyone who attends and takes photographs be kind enough to post a few here please.

Have put signs from keep left bollard in front of gate houseto car parking roads CP 2 CP3 marked route to our bus area. Also route through campus to car park at rear of show where you follow signs to the front

Yes I agree it seems to get busier each time I go and the venue feels a lot more welcoming than other venues

Good news with the extra car parks and the classic bus to link the two. Whilst the exhibition centre car park was it's usual nightmare the overflow ones you could pick your space

Finally thanks to all the crew that made it happen

The vintage bus was not very helpful. I got there at 10.17 and waited for over 30 minutes in the freezing cold before a couple of others decided to get a taxi. The return was timed on the hour taking about 10 minutes to get to the station. Both the Manchester train and the Paddington train left at 10 and 11 minutes past the hour. With the traffic both trains would have been missed. Didn't anybody look at the train times to co-ordinate the timing to alleviate a long wait for two major routes, one to London and one to Manchester and Birmingham.

As usual, a top show, at a top venue, so a big thank you to all those involved in its organisation and stewardship.

I was able to give the Southern O2 tank I've been building, a few laps on the test track and it seemed to perform really well, so I'm pretty pleased about that. It's now in the hands of Tim Ingman (aka The Snapper), for its DCC sound installation.

I bought a very interesting book about the railways in and around Avonmouth and also succumbed to a Dapol, late crest, green 08 - at £150, it was too good an offer to resist. I've not had a chance to have a good look at it though, because within an hour of purchasing it, I'd handed it over to Colin Dowling, for conversion to S7, along with a set of Slater's driving wheels for my MOK Ivatt 2-6-0.

Speaking of Dapol, the Mk1 coaches and Class 122 Gloucester single car DMU looked fantastic! I can't wait for my pre-orders to show up. :)

Finally, as always, it was great to catch up with so many friends too.

It is a bit of minefield when it comes to choosing a Prototype for the Class 08 as there are so many variations. I compiled the following list which may help you identify a suitable Prototype for your Dapol 08. Over the years various modifications were made to the Class 08 so it's always worth checking a photograph of your chosen Locomotive but the list should give you an idea of what numbers would be suitable for your Dapol 08.

Class 08 Shunter variations.

Bonnet Access Doors

Long Hinges were fitted up to 08266 (D3336) & 08369 (D3454) to 08387 (D3472).
Short Vertical Handles were fitted from 08177 (D3245) onwards.
Cab Doors

Wooden Cab Doors were fitted up to 08704 (D3871). Steel Cab Doors were fitted from 08705 (D3872) onwards.

08 858 was involved in an accident during 1978 and received the cab from 08 090 with Wooden Doors but retaining Steel Droplights.
08 887 was involved in an accident during 1986 and received the cab from 08 159 with Wooden Doors but retaining Steel Droplights.

Cab Droplights

Wooden Droplights were fitted up to

Steel Droplights were fitted to: -
08102 (D3137) to 08148 (D3216) & 08157 (D3225) to 08958 (D4192)

Cabinets

All Locomotives were built with a Vacuum Exhauster Cabinet on LHS.
The following Locomotives also had an identical Cabinet on RHS: -

08545 (D3709) to 08560 (D3727)

08656 (D3823) to 08958 (D4192)

The following Locomotives were built without the RHS Cabinet although some may have had them fitted when later Dual / Air Braked: -

08177 (D3245) to 08544 (D3708)
08561 (D3728) to 08570 (D3737)
08596 (D3763) to 08605 (D3772)
08640 (D3807) to 08655 (D3822) 08641,08649 & 08651 confirmed with RHS Cabinet

Air / Dual Braking

I reckon the above post needs to be in a new thread - assuming there isn’t one on the various sub-species of 350hp shunters.

Will speak to bus group about timings but we can not do much about the traffic will suggest that in the morning as most is coming in a straight turn around and not a wait to leave, but it would mean a random service operated by the 3 buses
