Fitted shed code to my 4f this morning and wagon plate to Lionheart/Dapol 16 tonner that will be weathered.

On the workbench today is a little bit of Swindon A shop. There is a beautiful diorama that Masterpiece Models use to display their fabulous locos from time to time. This diorama is the other end of that building. Mirrors will be used to add depth and length to fool the eye.
The inspiration;
It will be built on custom made Tim Horn baseboards as quite frankly they are the best.
The plan;
Test cuts and prototyping..
Now to cut up lots of MDF.
Hopefully the next pictures will be the finished article fully painted and detailed. I can’t wait to see it.
Next commission is half a dozen signal boxes that are overdue.

now that's an impressive building to put together. Really look foward to seeing how that comes out. Lots to paint!

If you use mirrored plastic sheet as apposed to a glass mirror you do not get the prism effect at the joint

What is the advantage over cutting and sticking individual timbers on a paper template? The time taken to snip them from laser-cut strip is much quicker (and a lot easier) than extracting the laser-cut timbers from the surround, and removing the webbing between them. Also avoids a lot of plywood waste.

Martin, you may be right and you've told me you think its a stupid idea in our previous correspondence but everyone is different and like to do things in their own way.
The webbing doesn't need to be removed, its completely invisible once ballasted just like C&L track lengths. I've been cutting Templot plans for a few years now on and off and other laser cutters have also started too I think quite successfully to do the same. We are responding to customer demand. Personally, I think it is much easier, there are no delaminated paper issues that some have experienced and a whole layout can laid in minutes. As for waste wood, thats part and parcel of any manufacturing process.

Seems to me that jigsaw templates that interlock would facilitate building track much more quickly, and probably with better accuracy than doing it the traditional way. Sure it wastes all the wood that isn’t timbers, and I guess it costs more, but if it is the catalyst that gives someone who would usually use Peco the confidence to take the step into DIY track building, it’s got to be worthwhile.
