I like the idea of just pitching up with a layout/diorama. I believe Simon said the hall is being refurbished next year, maybe a 'show and tell' day would be a nice filler?

I am indeed thinking along those lines, a sort of bijou little boutique type showette:p

What I'd really like to do is hire the New Oriel Hall in Larkhall (150 feet or so from front door of booky emporium) and then I could call it "Larkrail" and (even better) all the books could stay in the shop - re-sult!

Few issues to look at though, cost (it's Bath:rolleyes:) and car parking, although Bob had a genius idea last weekend on this point which I will follow up, and I will try and do it more than two weeks before the event:oops:

Or how about micro-layouts only - at a micro show? Set a few "rules" and call it "The Larkrail Challenge" ??

"Larkrail" took a step closer to happening today, I took a look at the hall and found out what it would cost:oops:

I have provisionally booked the hall for Saturday July 20th 2013, I would get the keys on Friday so hall entry can be from the crack of dawn and we'd have to be clear and out by 6.00pm.

All of which indicates opening hours of 10.00am to 4.00pm or possibly 4.30pm, depending upon just how portable everything is. At Camrail this year we'd pretty much cleared the hall by 7.05pm after a closing time of 5.30pm so I reckon it'd be safe to push Larkrail to 4.30pm finish.

Afterwards would be a social somewhere, depending upon numbers and weather and how unlucky you all were this could be chez Castens.

I fancy a change anyway so am very minded to book it, the only slight fly in the ointment is parking but I am gong to see if we could use Bath Rugby's Lambridge training ground hard standing, which is a short level walk from Larkhall. Even without this it's do-able (on street parking, buses).

The hall is quite a lot smaller than BoA so small layouts and demos would be the order of the day.

Phil Copleston came to Camrail this year and I'd certainly like to introduce some "S" to the proceedings, (Cookie?) I think a (Western Thunder) "show and tell" is a great idea as are micro layouts. How about someone here doing an online build of a small and interesting something that could appear at Larkrail (Roger - you know who you are - cemetery.... Ruston....1/32....;) )

I'm feeling quite motivated by the idea - make a note in your diaries!

:) Great news Simon! Date noted Sir!

I would be most pleased to help out in anyway over both days.

As for that ... yes indeedy! Thinking cap dusted off, adjusted to slightly bigger than my "normal" (tiny) brain size and pencil sharpened. How long have I got? OMG not long!

Hmmm a 6'6" coffin in 1/32nd is how big? Hmmm where's that hearse wagon picture... and a 110 acre cemetery in 1/32nd is how big = too big!

Roger

Motivated for once!

Excellent news Simon :) Date put in diary too, sounds like the makings of a cracking little show indeed :D

Depends on if you want something finished, something running or just a demo :D I'll have to get a thinking cap on and see what can be done in the time.

...the impact of scale on thinking caps.

With me, its more the impact on skull of thinking cap.. as it drags its contents into some weak form of action.

"...... all the books could stay in the shop - re-sult!

Expensive enough when he takes a selection to a show - I just dread the effect on my wallet of another visit to the shop...

Thanks for the offers and further thoughts. Things are moving ahead and I'm going to confirm the booking this week and get hold of the floor plan to see just what is practical. Several interesting bods have already "signed up" for next year's gig:p

Dutch sounds intriguing, any more info?

We could you and some Goudas next to John and his onions for a proper little EU section....
