Cessy-en-Bois: Une petite gare de triage

It appears that this https://www.3dcreationlab.co.uk/pdfs/projet-hd-3000.pdf is the machine they have.

They produce a lot of goodies for the modeller of French railways. Looks very nice.

We have just acquired an Ultimaker at work, for prototyping purposes. It is the extrusion type, with 0.4mm nozzles. Whilst it can print 0.2mm layers, I doubt it gives a surface finish that would be useful for modelling. It seems that the relevant approaches for modelling & jewellery are either the so-called MJM process, or the UV process that Alan Buttler uses.

The styles of buffer stop in France seem endless but the heurtoirs made from concrete blocks really appeal so, in between ballasting and weathering the trackwork, I knocked up these from blue foam, styrene and various bits from the spare parts bin:

I'm still waiting for the lenses but other than that they're ready to be installed (on the 3+loco and alt. 3+loco sidings.)

Thank you for all the kind comments and 'likes'.

I was asked on l'autre side what I used to the create the rust effect on the rails - AK Interactive "Rust Effect Colours" (AK551). Here's a test piece I created, trying for a more bubbled effect by stippling the colours rather than streaking them:

(The graphite pencil is applied just to the edges and the effect is hard to photograph but you can see it on the right hand buffer stop in photograph in my previous post.)

By mixing stipples with streaks and smears it's very easy to create many different effects.

While I should be ballasting, I've been working on the cabine for the wagon weighbridge:

The scale is hard to see (especially when the interior isn't lighted), but this is what it looks like (prior to painting):
IMG_0006.jpg

Everything was made from styrene and bits of brass rod and tube with the cabine base made from a 5mm thick piece of blue foam painted as for the heurtoirs (see previous posts).

All paints are Tamiya acrylics. I used AK Interactive AK 074 (Rainmarks for NATO tanks) and AK 013 (Rust Streaks) to weather the walls. The roof (hard to see) is weathered with AK Interactive AK 2074 (White and Winter Camouflage Paneliner.) Chipping to the raised walkway was with Vallejo 70822 (German Camouflage Black).

The decals and venetian blinds are from Decapod.

Back to ballasting, sigh...

Thank you for all the kind comments and 'likes'.

With the track painted and the ballast completed (huge sigh of relief) I can now look to install the catenary support posts along the voie de service that will run along the rear loop at the back of the layout. I'm not sure this is a prototypical arrangement (I'm pretty sure I will get some flack for this on l'autre side) but it will add a lot more operational interest and at the end of the day this is a toy and I really can't take it too seriously.

The support posts and decals are from Decapod, painted with Tamiya XF-19 and XF-20 followed by 'positive' chipping applied using a small piece of kitchen sponge foam dipped into Vallejo 70822 (German Camouflage Black.)

Excellent weathering on the supports caténaire and bases .

I did have to look at the track plan again to realise it was a shunting layout - hence the 25kV siding rather than main line supports caténaire ;).

Wonderful modelling Chris, your use of colour is most effective (and consistent). Every individual component feels very French in its own right so I'm looking forward to seeing the result when it's all brought together!

That's not modelling at all - I think Chris has got hold of a shrinking machine, and is actively reducing various bits of the French railway infrastructure!!

Excellent stuff though, no matter how he produces it :)

Happy New Year to all.

And thank you for the likes and generous comments - I feel a bit of a fraud regarding the catenary posts as the technique is quick and extremely easy to pull off.

Suddenly it seems as if I've made a lot of progress. The track has been painted, ballasted, weathered and tested and lots of odds and ends of detail have been added to the rear of the track base:
