Scattergun Class 22 details and drawings.

Evening all,

I'm developing a remarkable level of paralysis by prevarication around the proverbial Class 22. The JLTRT kit looks a peach (even if the prototype doesn't, discuss) and I'm intrigued with the possibility of fitting a model with genuine, prototypical cardan shaft drive.

However, I've realised there is an awful lot of variation in the fifty-ump locos and so buying a kit seems to leave me open to a potential foul-up. To make matters worse, I'd quite like to do one of the original pilot scheme locos as modified with headcode boxes and running in blue with a small yellow panel.

Have I finally lost my marbles and / or are there any reasonable drawings of the pilot scheme locos that I might be able to find?

Any reasonably polite responses would be welcome although my head is already hurting from two monster threads on the other place. So please treat me kindly.

Cheers,

Steph

Hi Steph,

at least JLTRT are now doing the original batch of locos, so at least you have a 'starter for ten' or should that be six?

cheers

Right, I've got the kit but am not quite ready to 'shake the box'...

Before I start can anyone point me to any photos of the bogies? Without Delrin chain drive taking up a load of space underneath it looks as though I'm going to have an awful lot of fresh air if I can't find the right things (spring plank, bolster, cosmetic cardan shaft and gearboxes) to fill the void. Any thoughts?

Second thing; without one of these locos surviving what are the choices for a sound profile/decoder and which is supposed to sound the best? My preference is for ESU Loksound v4...

Cheers,
Steph

Thanks Jon,
I knew I'd seen a picture like that recently! Can you please remind me which thread it was in?
I can already see some little changes worth making to the JLTRT bogies.
Cheers,
Steph

np Steph :) I can never find images on forums again so I save anything useful locally. I think it was a member's photo and the thread was about BREL Swindon ... maybe ...

Errr, so where can you find drawings of a D63oo then ? For those of us working in scales where the answer is not going to be buying a kit .

Thank you Daifly Dave for the link, they sound like they have plenty of drawings. Hopefully I might get some copies in return for a donation.

Even if you only get drawing numbers you'd be able to order the drawings from the NB archive at Glasgow uni.
Just a thought.

Sorry Steph. When I sent the pics I had of loco bogies in Swindon I forgot about this one. Dunno if it's a 22 bogie in the foreground, though. It might be another Hymek.

Well done Steph for starting this thread which epitomises the spirit of fellow modellers of Western Thunder helping one another to succeed in their modelling projects, Steph you could contact Fred Phipps, I am sure he has some NBL type 2 drawings obtained many years ago for his G 1/32nd scale class 22 model which I am sure would have the drawing for the bogies or more importantly the drawing number you may require for either contacting Glasgow Uni or the Class 22 project. email me privately if you have not got Fred's details. Steph I see you are going to model one of the original 6 prototypes in Blue small yellow panels (Great Choice for livery) only D6300, D6303 & D6305 carried this variation from memory (happy to be corrected). I am 99% sure that the original 6 had the same type of cab controls as the D600 class, you may want to check with Fred for 100% conformation, not having seen the JLTRT class 22 I am going to presume that they have produced the standard class 22 cab driver bulkhead/desk. Also a BIG thank you to oldravendale for attaching probably the best image I have seen of a D600 class in Swindon 'A' shops, (oooww the colour & clarity :) ), have you any more of these great images you can share?

Thanks for your kind words!

I've no more of the D600 Warships but a couple of D800 Warships also in Swindon Works. Happy to post if they might be of interest. I also have one or two others in operation or outside the works.

Hi Brian, just found your thread with your posted images, WOW what a fantastic collection of images for all to enjoy and be inspired by, my favourites being the Diesel Hydraulics, thank you for pointing your camera at these new 'diseasels' you could have saved your expensive colour film for steam however what you have recorded is priceless piece of history. The Swindon works 'A' shop images of diesel under overhaul have great colour, clarity & depth so thanks for sharing and if you have any more Hydraulics especially Warships then please post.
Kind Regards

Thanks again for your comments.

Actually the photos of the diesels were all a big mistake! They occurred on a trip to Eastleigh followed by Swindon when I reserved large quantities of film to photograph the steam locos. However, there were very few indeed, in fact none in the works at all. I therefore used the film on whatever was available, and that was the diesels under repair in the works.

As for other photos of hydraulics, I believe there remain some which have yet to appear on the pages of WT. However, I have to find the time to extract them and modify so they will meet the WT specs. It'll happen eventually!

Best regards.

Brian
