David Andrews 42XX

Hi All, I have been a member on here for some time and I am in awe of the skilled modellers and resultant models that I will no way emulate.
During these times of lockdown I am furiously working on the last room of renovation on the house that my wife and I bought 3 years ago and I have a temporary desk in the lounge at which I occasionally get to do some work on an old Eric Underhill 54xx kit. My next planned project is a David Andrews 42xx 2-8-0 tank engine and I just wonder if anyone has built one and posted on here. My only search brought up Heathers JLTRT version.

Cheers, Rob (Deano)

There is a review of the DA kit including build notes in the G0G Gazette Archive. There was also a build thread on the ‘old’ RMWeb which is now inaccessible. However I have a copy of that thread and will clean it up and send it to you if you PM your email address. The file is likely to be bigger than WT PMs allow.

I very nearly bought one years ago Rob, and I'd still like one..

It should go together very nicely. Look forward to seeing you make a start on it.

JB.

I've got two with square drop plate and I don't remember any significant problems. If you want photos of bits of them give me a yell.

Hi Rob,

I built one back in 2005 and it went together really well

and after....and the safety valve cover was adjusted:headbang::headbang::headbang:

One of over a dozen DA kits that I have built and never any trouble with any of them. Only wish I could do another these days.

Stay safe and enjoy the build

regards

Mike

I built one about 8-10 years ago. I can remember that you need a really good rivet punch ideally a GW one as it has a lot of rivets that need punching very close together.
Also and I stand corrected if I'm wrong I seem to remember that some rivets are different to the next one in size if you want to rivet it correctly. Other that it was a lovely model to build.

Thanks for all the replies, really appreciated.
I have quite a collection of DA kits awaiting a proper workshop and paint shop!

Dave, PM sent.
Thanks JB, it might still be a while as work starts for me again on saturday!
Simon, mine is the square drop plate version so I'll PM you shortly, thanks.
Mike, that's a fine example. Love the weathering.
Mark, I managed to acquire a GW punch off fleabay but I need to contact George for a full set of punches as it only came with one set but noted about the different sizes.

Stay safe.
Rob
