Wow!

Thank you very much for sharing those, and the steam ones - all that lovely green stock!

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm afraid I can't offer any information on these slides as no details came with them, but if anyone wishes to identify any locations then feel free.
These category's are now full, so I'm afraid there are no more to add, the rest are mainly BR (SR) stations in the 1960's & some steam on the IOW.
You can click on the existing images to see them in two bigger sizes, I hope Cynric doesn't mind this ?,  as I felt there is plenty of modelling inspiration in these wonderful images which can't really be seen in the small size.

Cheers Phill

Cracking stuff Phill!  Thanks for posting them.

Edit - Part 8 is definitely Taunton, looking in the Exeter direction.

Part one (1) is Radstock GWR after the station building and its platform had been demolished and replaced by a Chinese takeaway and other shops. The sidings that the wagons in the background are standing on were laid with very old inside keyed track.

Part three (1) is a stonking picture of Chippenham, looks to be the same tour train, one of those organised by the enterprising John Spencer Gilks I think. His series of books "Dawn of the diesels" feature this tour.

Mortimore's coal unloading hopper on left and remains (I think I am right in saying) of Brotherhood's locomotive works behind it.

Cracking photographs!

Pics like these always make me wish I'd been born at least 10 years earlier, so that I'd not just been alive in the 60s (well late 60s anyway) but old enough to actually have an interest and appreciation of the railway at that time.
On the other hand, whilst there's plenty of nostalgia for the time now, I can't help but feel that it must have been a depressing Era to experience, railway-wise, as the whole system seemed to be closing down almost to extinction.

I note the lack of 'youngsters' visible in the Railtour shots (Part 1 and 1st pic Part 2); no doubt the doom-mongers were predicting the death of Railway Enthusiasm (and by extension, Railway Modelling) within a generation... :)) ;)

I think rail tours would be simply too expensive for younger enthusiasts

Superb pictures Phill - thanks for sharing.

It makes you realise how much we've lost from our railway system though - the pretty stations, the classic traction/rolling stock and the liveries that suited them so well.  :'(

Luckily for us modellers, we can turn the clock back and relive those happier pre-privatisation days.

That is so true, but then its the same thing that afflicts every high street around the country - boring corporate uniformity
