Donner Pass

Besides my 7mm stuff I've always had a bit more than a passing interest in American Railroading. I did intend on doing a bit of HO modelling but space does not allow this.
I've recently done the track plan for Ranelagh Bridge and as I'm going to build the boards for this quite high 4 foot plus I've got plenty of room underneath to model something, I couldn't model any other scale in British outline so its back to the American stuff and this time in N scale.
This is really a layout to just watch the trains go by and will consist of a single running line in the High sierras based on the Donner pass and in the snow. It will be the current scene since the introduction of double stack container trains. It was these trains that really inspired me to take up modelling of the ' Dark side '
Don't expect to much to soon as I'm still building the Railway room and Ranelagh Bridge will always be the number 1 project.
Although I've just ordered my first bit of rolling stock, pictures will follow.

I've got 2 or 3 Twin stack sets stashed away somewhere that I haven't even looked at for the past 3 years. Hmmm :(

7mm would be epic, HO would be preferable but I don't have the room so N it is, still at least I should get a decent length double stacker in and hopefully the Amtrak zephyr as well as I'd love to ride this train one day

It's a slippery slope!!!
My O gauge is My main project but for all the work that will go in to it I can't just watch the trains go by, so the American fits the bill. HO would have been preferable but I'm very impressed by the little N scale I already have. So after some light engine movements and a bit of shunting on Ranelagh Bridge I can sit on a bar stool with a frosty brew from the fridge relax and watch the Zephyr wind it's way through snowy mountains and dream of the day that I do the journey for my self.
Am I temping you yet????

Unfortunately looks like I'm going to have to sell on the N scale, now the railway room is fast approaching completion I've realised I haven't got that much room for the N scale. The length of useable space is down to 7 foot as I need to leave access points and a duck under, directly over where the n scale is supposed to go is where the majority of the tortoise point motors for RB are going to be and that's not a lot of good if I ever need to get to them for maintenance or Replacement. It's a pity as I would love to do a bit of model rail roading but RB has to be the main focus
I think I might put them in the small adds before trying eBay

Steve,
A real shame, but I do know where you are. You've got a great 7mm project though, and I know how these things can be diversions...
More power to your elbow; I hope (and suspect) it's the right choice for you.
