I've just seen an article about an amateur photographers colour collection of the East End of London 1960-1980s.

I've not seen any railway related images in the few presented but the atmosphere and colours are showing a wonderfully evocative scene.

Hoxton Mini Press are producing a book of some of the images and at £17 I'm seriously tempted.

An outstanding find Adrian - thanks for sharing.

My parents both hailed from London's East End and I can recall travelling with my mum on a Green Line coach in the early 1960s - mid 1970s to visit my nan. Who knows, I may well have travelled or walked some of those very streets?

The book will definitely be finding a home on one of my shelves in the near future.

Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad it's been of interest. Perhaps I should have sorted out some commission from Hoxton mini press !

I'm in Leyton, so a bit outside the real East End, more Metropolitan Essex.

oooh.. Thank You. I'm always looking for a bit of local colour in the drab post-war of East London. It gives the Watkin's Wharf workforce something to lean against while they put the world to rights.

    Cheers

Oh dear, I've come over all misty eyed now!

My dad is very much a member of the Wapping "crowd" getting himself caught in the "Battle of Cable Street" and later survived being blown up by a "P-plane", while mum's folks were, all bar one, Stratford (out in the country, I know!) born and bred! So although I am actually an Essex boy, my heart is firmly lodged in that part of the world.

Here is a shot of my old stamping ground. My nan and grandpa's road in the bitter winter of '63, taken by my late aunt, Joyce Sharp:

Looks almost as if the milko has abandoned his handcart in the middle of the road? But then again, perhaps he might have been invited to just "nip in for a few moments" and warm his hands up?!

    Pete.
