Forum upgrade appears to have worked.

Well, yeah, but you could before...
I never tried it on any iDevice before so I'm not too sure how well it worked previously. However the software update has done a lot of work improving the compatibility with mobile devices, so for example it should handle the image rotation correctly now etc.

Hi Adrian,

one thing that has become apparent this morning is that threads that I read last night are still listed under 'What's new' and when I click on the title, instead of opening on the current page/post, it opens on page 1, post 1 - am I alone on this?

cheers

What's New and Recent Posts have swapped places. Muscle memory means I do keep clicking on Recent Posts instead of What's New, and indeed I will get post one on page one when I do that. Could that be the problem?

Having read your post via 'What's new' the page opened at the correct place and there was only the one thread in the list, so all seems now to be in order - the Gremlins have gone for breakfast/tiffin:))

cheers

With all the testing I did I never spotted that and it was staring me in the face.

So just to confuse you further I've swapped them around again - is this better for everyone?

Adrian,
Thought you might want the results from Android. Well the scores are in:
Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.3; 10 points, works exactly as it does on my laptop.
Samsung Galaxy S3; Not really sure, kinda tricky to tell, as you can see:

I suspect that wasn't quite the intention. Incidentally, on 'Desktop View' it's fine, just that the text is very small.

I know, I know! It's one of those 'what 2 letters come next in the sequence' puzzles. It's ch. Do I win a prize?

Either that, or it's taking the piss out of Steve's slender frame:)

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback Steph, can you please check that your S3 is picking up the new Flexile-2 style. The small text is suggestive that it's stuck on the older style.

I don't have an S3 but in Chrome there is an emulator. If I use this I get something like this

Screen Shot 2014-11-08 at 13.10.28.png

Is that the correct screen size 360x640?

No problem with screen size & yes it does look like that. The option to click 'Full Version' as we can on RMWeb would be handy though.

Phil,
One of the advantages of Android is that it's tailored on the phone. Press the menu button when viewing a web page and you'll find a check box 'Desktop view'; which will then pull down and display the full site.

Adrian,
I'll check the details you asked. Portrait display is as your graphic shows. I often use landscape for viewing pages though,
and that's when the formatting goes.

I popped a photo in one of my threads yesterday, taken on the iPad (running the latest iteration of the operating system), to see if the forum software did indeed spot the EXIF and rotated the image correctly.

It didn't.

Now, normally I take images and add them to a post as I need them, from the image picker. I choose "Existing Image" and navigate to my Photos collections, choosing from there. In the Case of the Inverted Image, I actually took the image from the point of choosing to upload an image. In other words, rather than picking from Photos, I simply used the image right away. I don't know if that had a bearing on things.

Adrian,
Galaxy S3 screen resolution is 1280x720, but my guess is that the resolution on webpages is compressed to make the text readable and make graphics handling easier.
Any idea how I can check which style is being loaded? I assume it would pick it up if pages are refreshed?

In my snapshot although it shows 360x640 for the screen resolution just to the right of it it shows a "device to pixel" ratio of 2 which I then equates to your 720x1280 screen resolution. I tried it in the Chrome emulator in landscape mode and I could recreate your snapshot.

The style used is shown in the bottom left hand corner of the web page. It should show Flexile-2 and this is the default setting on the forum.

Unfortunately the previous style was also called Flexile and it has a few common file names with the new style - in some ways it would have been easier to go for something completely different!

Even if you have the new style selected there still could be a couple of style files left in your browser cache from the old style. Can you clear the cached files from your browser?

The option to click 'Full Version' as we can on RMWeb would be handy though.
The flexile style we are using on this forum doesn't work the same way as RMWeb. The flexile style we have here is what's called a "responsive design" in that within the one style it adjusts (i.e. responds) automatically on the screen size being used and it has about 4 settings depending on size of the screen i.e. whether it is a smart phone or tablet being used. So when you go from the desktop down to a mobile device it is the same style being used and all the settings and features should be present on the smaller screen.

A far as I can tell the RMWeb styling is a fudge, the styling is not flexible and there is one style for the desktop and one "mobile" style, the mobile style is a "lite" version with a number of things turn off. The option for the full version is just changing the style for you. On the desktop on RMWeb if you go to the style chooser you can set it to mobile on the desktop if you want. On WT the one style covers a variety of screen sizes.

However after having said all that if you really want the full desktop effect on the mobile devices I have created another style you can select "Flexile-2 Fixed" where I have turned the responsive design off.

I hope this helps.

Hi, I'm investigating this. It seems that the forum upgrade does now handle the exif orientation correctly as long as the PHP EXIF function is installed on the hosting area. From what I can tell - it's this exif extension that is missing so I'm chasing it up with the zen internet to see if it can be enabled for us.

I might be being stupid, but I can't see how to edit thread titles anymore...
I used to edit the first post, go to more options, then I could edit title. Now I can't perform that task - is there a different method?
Thanks
Steve
Edit to Add: Stand down. I am being stupid  Top right corner of first post, click on Thread Tools, then edit thread. Easy when you know how...
