It has been a long time ...
Such is the nature of railway modelling if you have another life (but why have any other life, I hear people saying).
I have "bitten the bullet", and bought myself a locomotive in G3.
I don't have any track to run it on, but once I have sorted out my UK bank account I will order some from Cliff Barker.
I don't have any trucks to run it with, but once I have sorted out my UK bank account I will order some from Mike Williams.
It is a coal-fired live-steam 2-6-0 "Dyak" from Station Road Steam. As far as I can tell it hasn't been steamed in years, but it "ticks all the right boxes" for me: coal fired live steam, proper 2-cylinder propulsion, even Walshaerts valve gear. Talk about trying to run before you can walk ....
I have decided to take a schizophrenic approach to this project: build a garden-railway with S7-like pretentions (given my history in S7) - some nice scale-model wagons, and scale track, but with a choice of my live-steam, burning-coal-smell "Dyak" 2-6-0 tender engine, or a radio-controlled L&Y 0-4-0 "Pug". Trouble is I don't know where to start with either the 2-6-0 or the 0-4-0.
I have local offers of help with the live steam project - people who run 5-inch locomotives and will look on this as small stuff.
So I will keep you all posted (when it arrives)!
