GILBERT LANE CROSSING c1964

Here is another one I made earlier, a good 15 years ago I think. Though not a real place it is a true to scale collection of models from various places here in Hull or locations where I had worked. The gates work, and like their fullsize counterparts are held in place by proper working gate stops. Mick Nicholson.

Thanks for the kind comments. By chance I have the original North Eastern drawing for the signal box and similar (LNER/BR) for the signals and level crossing gates. My work also allowed me access to a lot of other details. Attached another view but looking the other way. Best Wishes, Mick Nicholson.

D1054, thanks for the kind comment re my model. I did not take the pictures, credit for them is due to Steve Flint, now editor of "Railway Modeller". At the time, and apart from his "Day Job" he did freelance work. Mick.

IIRC, isn't that the picture that started off the whole "How Realistic are your Models" Thread on RMweb..?? It is just superb.

Yes, some years ago, I put one picture on RM Web, but it didn't start the thread, it was about 7 pages in. Whatever, thanks to you all for your kind comments. Mick Nicholson.

Im a bit late to the party  8) but yes that is very convincing. A tribute to the builder skills and photographer, i wonder would it be as convincing in colour?

Bloody Hell Mick!

I honestly couldn't work out what you meant in your first post!  It took me a while to realise that the photo was actually of a model!!  Absolutely superb stuff!!    Graeme

Thanks Guv, I agree with your comment. Somewhere, I have some colour slides but I don't know how to scan them, to be honest I think the illusion would be lost. Mick.

Just found the attached colour view, its off a transparancy but not an original scan. It complements one of the Black and White views I posted yesterday, I will leave you to draw your own conclusions. In my opinion the Blues have come out far too strong. Mick.

I have faded it a bit, but it could do with a gradient on the sky

Thanks for that, softening the colours does improve it.
By the way, if anyone wishes to view the original model, it is now on public display at the Hull, High Street "Street Life Museum". Mick.
