Glazing Slater's 7mm coach kits

I have been using Cover Slip glass for the windows of GWR bogie clerestory coaches, built from Slater's kits.  The cover slips are courtesy of CPL and measure 24mm x 40mm x 0.17mm.  Previous practice has been to attach a plasticard, 3-sided, frame to the inner face of each coach side so that the glass can be inserted from the top.  Occasionally life has been made more challenging by paint getting into the groove or variations in the glass thickness.

How do you glaze such kits?  Successfully?

thank you, Graham

A bit of a side issue,  but I've been looking for an alternative glazing material to use instead of Plastiglaze in my S scale coaches and the cover slip glass looks like a suitable candidate.  How easy is it to cut the glass accurately to size?  And is it really around 0.17mm thick?  I had looked at slide glass but that seemed to be 1mm or more in thickness - something around 0.17 - 0.2mm thick would be ideal.

whilst I like real glass, I find it a PITA to work with. I found the thin stuff was prone to cracking with my ham fisted handling  :headbang:

I now use optical quality Acrylic (1mm, .8mm or .5mm) which I  laser to size, my guess is that you could cut it in your mill, which would open up all sorts of possibilities for recessed glazing etc.

The only 7mm coach I have glazed to date was the CRT LMS BG and I used a similar method to you Graham. Cover slips - bought from Simon Varnham (Building O Gauge Online). They were held in with brass angle soldered to the coach side.

I'll have a look at the optical quality Acrylic.  As for milling,  someone,  not a million miles from Heyside,  has got me chewing through 3mm Perspex at the moment.  :D
