Well, er, I find this a bit difficult ...my, er name is Richard and...um.......oh dear... I'vealwaysratherlikedtherailwaysinthewestofEngland.

Phew, I'm glad I got that bit over!

Not going to rattle on too long but long history of modelling - bit of this bit of that: model railways, plastic, plank on hull, model sail, model eng (tried)

Had an exhibition layout 1996-2000 called Wiveton, sold it. (Funnily enough it came up for auction at Lacey Scott's again in 2013 but was withdrawn before sale. If anybody sees it would love to know where it is. Probably broken up.)

Spent some time contributing to a certain tourist attraction in Norfolk that features large layouts. No connection at all now. Nuff said. But some us who met there are now making a continental tram layout for a chap in Hertfordshire. That's a challenge - trams, foreign, chap has no idea about operation and he wants everything: n/g railway, cable car, ubahn, working fairground etc. We said "no" to a rack railway. Laugh a minute!

Meanwhile trying to get on with my own new layout - TheRSR - which is supposed (!) to be a reusable fiddleyard and end curves with a number of different 'stage scenes'. That was the theory. Using 16.5mm track I could have OO, HO, On30, narrow gauge as the mood took my. Silly idea really as I would never afford all the stock and my life is unlikely to be sufficiently long enough to realise the whole thing and where would I store all the 'sets' etc?

So, I have the curved ends which I can..... actually I'll put this in a layout thread.

I need a drink! (oops)

Seriously, I am looking forward to sharing in more serious(?) and meaningful forum than others that are available.

If you've got this far, thanks for reading.

Kind regards

Welcome Richard!

Lots of piccies is the usual WT currency. Well illustrated posts always go down well.

Welcome.

The RSR wordpress makes interesting reading, there are a few of us here who appreciate that design icon - the Routemaster.

Thanks Heather, noted.

The Routemaster, Graham - lovely kit and needs to have time taken on it to do it justice. Having done one I'd approach the build differently a second. The biggest problem is that the inside is slightly bigger than the outside - well it was when I made it! Following the instruction you build the inside first so are unaware of a possible gap in the outer panels until its too late, even dry runs might not show it because things can change when glued.
Because of the detail painting in the interior, the risk of liquid cement running is quite high in later construction stages so I used super glue which of course also has attendant risks itself. Really, I think the outside should be built first and the inside slotted in, any small gaps inside wouldn't be seen unless the piece was being examined with a laparoscope. I was asked to do another but I said no.

Thanks for your kind words.

Richard

Thanks Ian, you'll have spotted I didn't commit to which westofenglandline! Testing the water.....:) I do like rural railways and presently I have a 'wife-annoying' pile of books, maps, and plans for research of the B&W and the NCR.

To be honest I wish I wasn't building it! Fortunately, I'm not actually doing the electrics. I just stand back and make wise and sagacious observations. The future owner has now asked for block working to be installed on two of the tracks, so that he can have 6 trams running together on that part. Almost all the buildings are being lit and he wants street lighting. Oh,and a working sawmill and working watermill. Did I mention real water in the fountain? It is complicated but considerably simplified compared to what he originally proposed. That would have been quite impossible.

Thanks for looking etc.:)

Welcome Richard, I think I know 3 others who did work at an attraction in the Broads area with large layouts, if it's the same place from what I've heard, as you said 'nuff said.
