Hartley Hill The Other Side Of The Fence

As Heather says it's superb John. I need a few of these myself. I recently picked up a kit for one of the Alumina wagon conversions of these which will feature on the bench in a short while.

Fantastic John, Iove the weathering job on these and like Rob these are right up my street and on the list to build at some point. What is the origin of the kit? Is it solely Slater's or are there any extras ? And I agree with Graham, lets see more pictures, lovely stuff

You wait until John gets round to a photo or three of the coal train. I was looking over the fence into the private siding at Hartley Hill recently and there was a rake of Denaby wagons... all weathered nicely and with such variation that one could believe some wagons were just out of shops whilst other wagons were in need of a visit for some TLC   .

I understand that Denaby has some more wagons in the shops, those are likely to be looked at by Foreman MMP with some assistance in the area of side and end knees (having lent Ince Waggon to John he is going to get those bits bang on).

Graham, this is like manor from heaven, please please John some pictures of the above would be great. Also if you have too many 'Denaby' wagons I could find a good home for them as Slaters have sold out long ago with no intention of printing anymore,

Yours the Green eyed monster :))

They do, both types, for the steel and wooden bodied wagons but the bad thing about it is the lettering can't be distressed in the same way as the transfer just breaks up. Where as, IMHO the Pre printed ones can be distressed and worn as per the prototype. It's just personal preference really. For my next project I'm going to try hand lettering I think, see how it goes ?

Thank you Heather for such great photos of those hoppers, top notch. The wagons are rather tidy as well.

Hi Rob and Mick thank you for the nice comments I have to say that I feel slightly embarrassed .the hopper is a slaters kit no extras just detailing the inside they are modelled on the early wagons with the double W irons . After I had Finnished it I googled NER hopper wagons an found some really good photos of the inside of them lots of detail .I have made a couple of mistakes but on the next two which are nearly Finnished I hope that I've got it right there will be a total of ten or twelve of them .Iknow that they have absolutely no place on Hartley hill but they do look awesome .i took this wagon to Richard Carrs layout a while ago and it did have a lot of interest.as regards the Denaby wagons mine were built some time ago they were infact the first scale severn wagons that I built in fact the first wagons since I were lad I had no reference material but managed to get the insides almost right they are not in the same class as yours but they are a very attractive model and Graham seemed quite taken with them
But again thank you for your comments

No need John, the hopper really is very nice. Are the W-irons sprung or compensated and are they supplied in the kit? I only ask as I wondered what came in the box and what you would change or do different on the next wagons ?

Hi Mick I've used Mike osbournes inside bearings and the slaters plastic inside W irons and etched outside w irons if could get etched ner ones I would but Mike now does etched lnwr W irons and when I over laid the ner etched out side w irons over the etched lnwr ones they seemed an almost perfect match so that might be an alternative as the wagons woul run much more freely .What are your views .if you want to pm me your phone no I'm quite happy to chat about it unfortunately I can't go to Robs do in April
