Hello and belated Merry Christmas

Thanks to the admins for accepting my application - I came across the forum when whiling away Christmas Day afternoon when the house was quiet for a bit and discovered it via a reference to Mick Simpsons' Cameo Callaton layout (note to self to buy Iain Rice book).

I'm actually a long-time narrow gauge modeller (and small-time kit manufacturer) which I guess doesn't fit too well here, but I've also attempted to dabble in 2FS for some years and in recent months I've just about got around to doing something - nothing sophisticated, just an ongoing Farish Pannier conversion and a few wagons, none of which have anywhere to run because I've not summoned up the courage to build a turnout yet. I also do rather a lot of volunteering at Boston Lodge Works on the Ffestiniog Railway, which is my main excuse for not getting any modelling done.

I can see you like lots of photos but unfortunately the vast majority of mine are full size 2'0" gauge (or skiing, or dogs), so you'll have to make do with a couple of 2FS chassis to prove that I'm not a complete fraud.

Welcome to WT Chris, and a Happy Christmas to you. Thus far I've seen nothing to suggest you won't fit right in here, as you surmise pictures are the WT currency and there isn't a policy I know of that says they have to be of models. I'd personally welcome pictures of BLodge, how's Welsh Pony coming along?

Welcome to you, you have arrived at probably the best place on the net. You seem to have just the credentials to fit right in so no need to worry. WT has no constraints on scale, gauge, occupation or colour (blue particularly welcome) so that is ok, comprenez?

2mmFS turnouts? No problem, my calling is S7 and I am building 2FS track for the local club and as you have discovered Mick Simpson pops in with worthwhile contributions. Just start and ask questions... or ask questions and then start... both work.

Ought not to have mentioned Boston Lodge Works, you are going to have to post pictures of the work which goes on in there for most WTers have an interest in whatever is current in the prototype railways.

regards, Graham

Welcome aboard Chris, and seasons greetings.

Us 2 millers do seem to be a little bit outnumbered on here so good to have another join us.

Regards,

David

Thanks for the kind messages guys - that's fortunate as I can ramble on about the FR all day.

Pony is coming along well and the current status is that the tender is pretty much complete and the loco is a rolling chassis with new boiler installed. The cab and tanks are well on the way but there's been some disappointment that it didn't steam in its 150th year (i.e. 2017) - I think that this has just been down to the way that finance and staff availability has worked out this year as it's been a particularly busy one.

Thanks Graham - I'll try and remember to post a few bits and pieces as I go. I'm involved in a few areas such a maintaining and running the gravity demonstration slate train, loco cleaning and prep and have spent quite a lot of the time on the ongoing restoration of the Chinese 76cm gauge C2 class 0-8-0. Those who've been paying attention will notice that this is 16cm wider than the FR, which has necessitated slicing that amount out of the middle of the chassis and sticking it all back together again. The photo below shows the result of the rewheeling process with the regauged 60m wheel sets this Easter. There's a lot more on the project including progress reports from the monthly working parties on its website here.

This was just a lucky coincidence - rostered as brakesman on this special taking Hugh Napier from Boston Lodge to Dinas on the WHR:

And a weekend's ****** hard work - laying track into the enormous new Waggon Tracks shed at Minffordd which now houses the heritage freight fleet:

Looks like a fun morning!

JB.

It was - it's the motive power for the second (WHR) half of the 2016 Snowdonian, which is the annual 80 mile round trip special on both the FR and WHR (Porthmadog-Blaenau-Porthmadog-Caernarfon-Porthmadog). They are waiting at Boston Lodge to take over the train after it's done the first part of its trip on the FR and will take it to Caernarfon and back. Linda and Blanche have been turned for the occasion to work on the WHR - the other loco is Darjeeling Himalayan Railway No.19, visiting from the Beeches Light Railway.
