Hello from Down Under

I have rather belatedly just discovered WT whilst following Chris Tooth's thread on RMWeb! Having reluctantly turned our backs on the beautiful County of Cornwall a few years ago we are now in Punganui, a tiny, tiny place near Helensville, New Zealand. I am slowly rebuilding the outdoor 16mm line and even more slowly creating St Columb, a station on the fictitious 2' 3" gauge Newquay and Wadebridge Railway, heavily influenced by the Lynton and Barnstaple line, with a standard gauge terminating branch from Padstow. This is a Phoenix, rising from the ashes of my previous 4mm exhibition layout, Boscarne Junction. It is also my first venture into sound-equipped DCC and therefore a steep learning curve!

Yes, quite right, a fanciful re-writing of the history books!

A warm welcome to WT. I have thus far resisted the wife’s pleas to
move down under :D

Hello Mick. Your wife may well have good reasons to want to move to these slightly warmer climes, and there are certainly a lot of advantages of life here. But there are also disadvantages, one of them being a dearth of decent model shops! Nearly all the stuff I buy comes from the UK which is fine at present as the VAT I don't pay is usually greater than the cost of shipping, providing I don't go over the threshold for Import Duty, GST (VAT) and the handling charge that would be applied. From next July the rules are going to change making buying overseas a more expensive option. I wouldn't mind that as I like to support local traders if I can, but when a heck of a lot of the stuff I want simply isn't available locally that's not so funny. :(

Welcome over to WT. You'll find progress on Pencarrow is now just being updated on here but with much reduced frequency. Looking forward to seeing updates on what you're up to.

All the best.
