Help in finding an old thread

I've just extracted the Ace kits "K" from the collection of shelf queens and want to resurrect the thread which I last added to probably a year or so ago. I can't remember the precise title and I can usually get back to the threads I need via my membership name, but in this case I can only get back to September 2016.

Can someone give me some clues about how I may be able to find this rather ancient thread? I think the title was "Building the Ace Kits K", but I might be wrong...... There were lots of helpful contributions from many members.

I've found it, but not through any sort of clever process. I guessed that it was an Area 51 type project so just started trawling through each subject and found it on page 7. However, this is far from a scientific approach and could take hours unless one hits lucky, so what's the search process?

Incidentally, I also tried searching under subject "Building....." hoping that the rest of the title would come up, but no joy.

Thank you Tony. I'll try to remember to get my head around key words. I clearly didn't try hard enough.

However, I suspect, Tony, that you were quick off the mark because you remember the thread and are watching for more comedy soldering.......

Hmmm. Even stranger.

I just searched again for the thread under "Ace kits" and "oldravendale" and got back to this thread only - not the old one! I also received the message that the word "Ace" had been disregarded as it is too short or too common.

All in all a very strange phenomenon.

.....and this time I put in "Building the Ace Kits K" and "oldravendale". It was there among all my other postings with the message
  1. The following words were not included in your search because they are too short, too long, or too common: the, ace, k
In common with a lot of our stuff a number or letter can be an important locator, and ace is also an important identifier, although I understand why the definite article would be excluded.

Still confused, but glad I found it again.

When I tried it rejected k only but accepted ace and kits I got no joy with 'building the ace kits k' so searched just for 'ace kits', posted by you.

Edit: I mght have been mistaken - I just tried again with 'ace kits' and it dropped out ace, searching only for kits. Nothing but your recent posts so I searched under advanced under area 51 and got it. Definitely there under normal search when I tried earlier and posted the result.

No, not watching comedy soldering - just having a day off comedy 'trying to fit any number of relatively modern diesel engines into a wartime US truck :headbang::rant::headbang::(.

Also note forum has been v. slow today and sometimes drops out, flagging up 'exceeded something-or-other' - may have been affecting searches?

Thanks for trying again Tony. And perversely pleased that you had similar problems as it makes me feel that I'm not entirely ga ga.

Yes, WT has been very slow off and on recently, and I was actually unable to get in at all earlier this evening, so I wonder if that has something to do with it. I also tried to post a message - it wouldn't post and then appeared four times. Something strange is going on.

The other - perhaps more efficient - way round is to search your own profile. Click on your forum name, then on the 'postings' tab that appears third from left. Then scroll to the bottom of the resulting page and click on 'Find all threads by oldravendale' and somewhere in just three pages, in your case, the thread will appear.

Looking forward to seeing further progress on the K, Brian. Lovely-looking engines.
