High Street (A working Title)

Well, I promised an updated tonight, no layout pix unfortunately but I have been working away on the pub as its been raining on and off all day so no Gardening has been done.

Front and back base coats done and details picked out in gold on the frontage.

New Layout 21.jpg
Individual bricks picked out and sills etc painted:

New Layout 22.jpg
Front now complete bar widow frames & glazing, this will need satin varnishing before a little more weathering, but this might wait until the whole building is ready.

New Layout 23.jpg

Rear also now at the same stage as the front, I am though considering 'white washing' the ground floor at the rear.

Light wasn't particularly great by the time I've taken the last two pictures but you'll get the idea!

Al, you know I think you should white wash the back ground floor. I just can imagine weathered peeling white wash with all sorts of drainage pipes coming out the walls serving the urinals and the kitchens. It’s looking good so far. The pub looks like a good place to get a pint. :)

I think I will probable white wash the bottom floor. I'll probably wait until I have done the ends and sealed it all with satin varnish, then cover it in white acrylic and rub it back with fine sand paper.

Well, there has been no modelling today so I wasn't planning on an update. Most of the day has been spent painting the fence in the sun, so once done I thought I'd bring the pub out for a better picture of the frontage. Decided to temporarily fit the excellent etched front windows. Can't wait to get this finished and installed on the layout.

Hi Al this is a photo that I found of Inkerman Street
John

Thanks John, I think that is one of the few pictures I managed to find. If we can get it to look half as good I'll be happy. Still a long way to go but if I can keep adding bits as I go, just a shame I can't get to the layout at the moment.

Thanks for those Pics Alan, if we can get this layout anything like that I'll be happy.

Work has been a little slow here at the moment, not really made very much progress this week at all. I should have some more Red Oxide here this week so can crack on with the rest of the pub which might get me going again. Anyway, I have 'white washed' the ground floor of the back of the pub this afternoon, its not much but it is progress!

Thanks John. Roughly painted with White Acrylic then sanded back with some fine sand paper. Followed someone else's method with a little tweak.

Very little progress at the moment with not being able to get to the layout itself. Cam has been doing a bit of modelling and posed a 60 with the retaining walls so here's a random picture:

New Layout 27.jpg
Still waiting on some Red Oxide paint now from a third supplier (I hope) so I can crack on with the pub. More buildings to come and hopefully we'll be able to plant some of them sometime this year.

Red primer finally turned up yesterday from my third supplier (first two clearly couldn't be bothered!). It s totally different shade to Halfords but has done what I needed on the pub and will give some variation with other buildings.

Managed to pick out the bricks on one end of the pub with various browns, still need to do the other end and paint up the chimneys but will hopefully be on to doing the roof before too long.

New Layout 29.jpg

Next up the Intentio shop/house. This is the new red primer which is a much redder colour, only detailed with two other browns so far but I have a third to try. Again this should be to a point that the roof will want doing, but it will then stop until I have some more houses so I can do the roof in one.

New Layout 28.jpg

Lastly an NPS Terrace house. Not sure if this will make the cut for the new layout or not, but I will finish building it and see once we get back on site!!

Well, the pub is now nearly finished, well as near as it is going to get till I can get back to the layout properly. Roof tiles have been done today but will get a dusting of grey primer either later or tomorrow and I will likely add some flashing around the chimneys, but I am happy with this. Looking forward to seeing it in situ!

I'll pop some sunny shots in here at some point this week. Spec for the next building has been created so watch this space!

On the way to do this weeks shop a box was 'socially distance' left at Cam's, he sent me this picture a little later on of the pub in situ on the new layout:

Cam has also had our old layout 'Russel Street' out for some pictures and videos, he's also been tweaking a few bits. Here 37156 waits to leave the bay platform that's just been re-painted:

Now that after next weekend we will be able to meet up to six people inside as long as we keep at least 1m apart, layout building will hopefully re-commence. In the meantime Cam as been doing up a couple of Heljan 37/4's up in the condition after Margam took their paint brushes to them. Here are 37402 & 37425 posed on the new layout with the scrap train.

Very little progress but things are moving! All the main walls are in and I've made a start on the cobbled road in front of the arches. I am not happy with the arch blank so this will get replaced, it was done before lock down and has bowed badly, but you get the idea.
