Indoor Mini Gauge 1

I am trying to create a small layout that has some operating interest.
My progress is eratic as I tend to swap from scenery to rolling stock production as the mood takes, I am also discovering the delights of changing focus and stiff fingers when I try to do (for me ) fine work.
The overall size is 11'6" x 20", the scenic area is 8'. I am using Clive Barker track.

Hi John

Welcome to the forum, good to see some more Gauge 1 on here (a slow but steady infiltration, sorry guv  ).
You've done well to squeeze a Gauge 1 layout indoors, I look forward to seeing more of it develop.
Are you using Cliff's code 180 or 200 rail out of interest?

An interesting trackplan there; simple but plenty of operation! Will watch this one with interest.

And welcome aboard from me, too.

Thanks for your welcome to the forum.
I started a thread relating to this project on RM forum, so some early photos are there.
All my work is rather basic as I am no engineer, just a bodger trying to create an overall impresson of past memories.
I am using the stainless steel code 180 track, the wheel standards are Brassworks, Slaters and Gauge 1 Model Co as all my stock are either RTR or simple kits. Sorry if this makes the Fine Scalers run screaming.

I don't think your work is going to make anyone run away, it looks very good. I especially like your rake of box vans and the layout design is clever too

The more small G1 layouts there are the better - we can't let the likes of Colonel Cholmondley Smythe with their country piles have all the fun

I thought I would supply a few boring details of the construction. The boards are 12mm ply mounted on 69 x 19 mm framework.
the scenic boards sizes were determined by the footprint of the points, one board being 5' 6" x 20" the second 2' 6" x 20".
The traverser has 3 isolated tracks, this will allow a little varietyof operation.

My main interest is collecting the motive power models, so my stock is varied although GWR is leading at the moment.
The chosen period I am modelling is the mid 60's. In my imagination steam is being moved anywhere before going for scrapping, this allows anything up to BR blue diesels to mix without any problem. My fantasy world is wonderful.

Although progress is slow I am now sticking sheets of sandpaper onto the platform for the tarmac surface.

i use sand paper for the felt roofs on some of my buildings to good effect although the paint brushes dont fare to well  keep the pics coming cheers chris westernfan

I am attaching a couple of photographs ( sorry about the quality ) for the forums GWR fans. The 14xx was finished and weathered by Tower Models to their usual good standard ( just a happy customer ).
I am now making a start on some basic station buildings, trying to give a atmosphere to the layout.

I have been trying to produce a couple of buildings for the layout, I decided to start with a handicap by using a 7mm scale engine shed for the basic materials.
I have attached a couple of photos of a disused goods shed and a simple station building. Hoping these will be greatly improved by painting and weathering.
the bridge supports and platform edging were covered in embossed sheeting by Jacksons Minitures.

I hope you don't mind me saying this, but in my opinion the "handicap" with that building isn't so much the scale being wrong, as much as the fact that it's so recognisable.... it just screams "Heljan Engine Shed" at you, I'm afraid... :(

Thanks for your comment, the more I look at the shed I have to agree with you. I am now thinking about lowering the roof line to try to blend it in.

Some progress has now been made on the two main buildings, I think lowering the roof of the goods shed has helped.

 ...erm... ...
having agreed your Goods Shed is much better, would now be a bad time to point out that your Girder Bridge is in danger of collapsing...? :?

DSC00762.jpg

The girders themselves aren't supported at each end... ;)
