Jason's GNR things

Hi there,

I thought I'd make a start on my GNR petrol railcar. A couple of years ago I trawled through any and every photo I could find and managed to draw up some plans for the vehicle.

Then I set to with a program called Blender and created a 3D model

Printing it has been interesting. I've had to split the model into three parts - the roof, the body, and the chassis. It's gone through a couple of iterations, but I've finally managed to print everything off.

I'll take some photos and put them up tomorrow.

It took a bit longer than I thought, but here's the chassis. It was printed in resin, and was designed to take a motor from a camera lens from Locos n Stuff, and it runs on Hornby wagon wheels in brass bearings.

It's a tight fit in there, but it all fits. Next up will be the pickups, which will be interesting! Not wanting to come across as too cool, I also have a banjo, so I've plenty of old strings saved.

I've been sidetracked a bit by a GNR Pullman build that Dave (Chris P Bacon) is doing over on RMWeb on Sandy, GN & LNWR, Sandy & Potton, Pullmans. He's drawn up set of etches and has already built up four coaches. Unfortunately, you need to be a bit of a Michelangelo to line it.

We spoke about Dave only bringing it out on especially foggy nights, but it would be a shame to not at least try to do the lining. Over the last couple of weeks I've been decyphering a side view of the coach, and checking it with the details from the Balmoral Pullman ( Pullman Sleeping Car Balmoral - Stately Trains )

Which has eventually turned into the image below. I've added a red/brown background, but we are erring towards mahogany at the moment. The black lines are only there to show the location of the beading, etc.

The drawing in the roundel has changed slightly so it doesn't overlap. I have a colour laserjet for work, so I'll be testing it with this later in the week. Then it's back to the railcar.
