Andrew, further to what I messaged you, when you spray the green angle it away from the masking tape over the yellow, this will stop those 'blobby' or raggedy edges if you go a bit heavy with the paint. Very light coats of green rather than one heavy one around the yellow will also avoid this. Finally remove the masking while the paint is still wet then any creep can be brushed away with white spirit provided you are using oil based paint. Cellulose doesn't tend to suffer as badly from paint creeping under
Make sense

Finally bitten the bullet and put some paint on the loco .

Some tidying up to do but quite pleased with the result .

Pictures make the over spill look worst than it actually is and some enamel thinners will remove and shouldn't affect the yellow as this was auto spray .

What a twit just realized that the green on this particular loco should bisect the lights on the front warning panels back in the paint shop tomorrow . Doh

Hi Andrew.

Anything "Peaky" always gets my attention and I'm enjoying your updates.

Did you ever sort the cab interiors? I think I may have some spares from a current project so if you want me to have a look.for them, I will. Not sure what state they're in as this one hasn't seen the light of day for a while due to other projects.....

Cheers.

Sean.

Thanks for your offer but cabs sorted just need to start putting everything back together . I have repainted the fronts again to remove the overspill and tide up the around the windows on one end as their was some filler that hadn't been dealt with from an earlier accident . Will post some more once everything starts coming together and transfers applied .

I was never completely happy with the paint finish so out with the paint stripper and glass fibre brush etc now awaiting a good drying before applying a new base coat . I have ordered a new airbrush AB- 180 and will put in some practise before I go near the loco this time as I don't want to do a third paint strip .

I have just painted a western in green, and think the way to get a good finish on JLTRT diesels is to spend time on the mouldings with wet and dry, I used 2000 grit. Also try to avoid scratching durin construction. Once happy with the rubbing down I then gave it a VERY light coat of two part etch primer with the air brush. Next coat was some one part primer in grey, again through the airbrush. The reason for the second primer was basically a rub down coat. Once happy with the flatness of the primer I next sprayed the yellow ends in cellulose over a pale grey base coat. Green was next, about 10 light coats with rub downs between each one, after the last coat of green I gave it a good wetting with neat celly thinners to get that lovely glossy sheen.
Roof and red buffer beams next then after plates and transfers went on the lot was lacquered down to shinny satin finish which looks about spot on (still to see a matt finish on a real life loco;))
Just remember the number one rule when painting:- your top coat is only as good as what is underneath.
Can't think of anything else , hope this helps

Different class your painting.

Your advice is much appreciated I re-primed with some JLTRT etch primer this afternoon and will post a picture tomorrow (tempted to leave in primer as better than my previous attempts with the air brush). I think plenty of practise is now required on some old tin cans as I don't want to do a third strip down .

That's looking like it will scrub up well Andrew.

What masking tape do you use? If I may be so bold as to suggest Tamiyas Yellow stuff? I swear by it.

Cheers.

Hello Andrew,

looking good, but should the top head code disc be painted yellow. I always thought that the norm was for them to be painted in the background colour.
